November 4, 201312 yr Hi everyone... More unfortunate news- Just had word from a customer of ours that purchased a Neo 29er in August that it was stolen today. They took the bike minus the console/display, battery keys and charger...so not really any good to them. If any Emotion dealers could please pass on any details to me or ask for a frame number and details etc if an enquiry comes up, my customer would be most grateful. Thanks, Mart
November 4, 201312 yr Did a search on ebay and someone selling half a dozen bikes has one that was "recovered" Neo E Motion street electric gents bike ( Selling As Parts As Needs A Battery ) | eBay
November 4, 201312 yr Well spotted Clockwise. We have 2 customers that have had bikes stolen in the last few weeks, but there has been little news so far. If anyone spots an eZee bike or a bike with an eZee conversion with that is being offered for sale without a charger or keys, please let me know.
November 5, 201312 yr My thoughts are if all members would post their location and maybe photos of their bikes we could monitor sales on e bay etc in our areas.

November 5, 201312 yr Author Stolen from home or whilst out & about ? Just interested ... I believe it was from outside his place of work....also no insurance unfortunately.

Hi John, I am not quite sure if I have understood your suggestion and forgive me if I got it wrong. There is already the facility for members to have their location and any other details they would like to be made know posted here http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/electric-bicycles/1573-where-do-you-live-v2-0-a.html. Some members do post photos of their bikes, but to giveaway too much information may in fact lead to a theft. Of course after the event then it would be a good idea. What I would suggest is a database of stolen electric bikes that can be referred to at any time and updated in the event of recovery.
November 5, 201312 yr Stolen Electric Bikes / Equipment Sorry to hear about your customer's bike Martin. We'll have a think to see if we can improve on this with the new forum software.
November 5, 201312 yr You should tell them to get some decent U-lock. Something like a kryptonyte faggetaboutit. I had my brompton locked like this for over a year on the street and it has always been in place:

Masses of loose wires running into a bag, what's that all about?
November 5, 201312 yr yeah I also left it ugly on purpose to deter thieves. But I recently decided to clean it up and still have no problem:
November 5, 201312 yr Looks somewhat better. Will not stop thefts but I can't help thinking that the manufacturers of these bikes could quite cheaply build in a cost effective tracker during production.
November 5, 201312 yr problems with track is autonomy and GSM system. Current tracker need a SIM card in order to have them working properly. Not sure people would want to pay every month for mobile tracking service.

November 5, 201312 yr For any bike worth more than 500GBP, never use something weaker than this! http://cdn.probikeshop.fr/images/products2/193/68515/68515-KRYPTONITE-Antivol-NEW-YORK-FAHGETTABOUDIT-U-LOCK.jpg Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit Mini Lock: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Outdoors This mini-lock doesn't always allow you to park everywhere, but this lack of space prevents thieves to use leverage tools.
November 5, 201312 yr Is that small box a battery pack for the lights? At the end of the working day at least it carries you home. MS.
November 5, 201312 yr no, the small box is a 12V adapter for the light. It uses my main battery (800wh) to power all leds
November 5, 201312 yr Agreed on the New York Lock Mini, that's the one i've used for the last five or so years, bolt cropper proof, bottle jack proof, you'd only get through it with an angle grinder. I also have a secondary lock for one wheel, frame and solid object, then a cable that does the other wheel and fastens to the NY lock. The weight doesn't matter to my bike, so i lock it up like Fort Knox, and hopefully they're not willing to go through all the hassle and just pick an easier target.
November 5, 201312 yr problems with track is autonomy and GSM system. Current tracker need a SIM card in order to have them working properly. Not sure people would want to pay every month for mobile tracking service. Could they not have a pay as you go sim? Activated only when parked up.
November 5, 201312 yr They can probably put a PAYG sim, but my point is that you basically need to implement a mobile phone as tracking system with double membership (mobile operator + tracking device company). And battery is also a problem. Would be so annoying to have to change battery every few weeks. I've checked in the past few company doing that it's definitely not cheap that's why I don't have one on my bike.

I think the idea was to run it off the huge ebike battery but then do you advise people to leave the battery in the bike when they lock up so the tracker works or take the battery out so it doesn't get the battery stolen? I personally think that whenever someone takes any bike for repair or they get stopped for any reason the frame number should be quickly searched in a stolen bikes database. Might take a few months but once people notice buying an iffy bike will get it taken off you when you next walk into a bike shop for a flat tyre/service or have any kinda involvement with the police ect then stolen bikes for the most part would be worthless to all the oppertunist riffraff.

I'd have the tracker with a small rechargeable battery. This being topped up every time the main cycle battery was connected. This way you can remove the main battery and the tracker keeps working. Pay as you go tracker just texts you lat and long co ordinates when moved. No need for a tracking company. When it stops moving, you go and find it. Simple. No substitute for good security but in the worst case, may help you get it back.
November 5, 201312 yr can you give us a link to your tracker? i'm interested if it works in france If I had one, I would. I am simply saying a device such as this could be implemented by the manufactures of E bikes, and or controllers. I believe that there are similar devices that can purchased and fitted in the head tube of a cycle, you would however need to periodically replace the battery in these. I see no reason why they should not work in any country. Someone on this forum is sure to have a link to these. If not search the net.
