Would you trust a cheap battery charger off of (say) ebay?

For a really good battery charger you’d probably pay c.£50. There’s a lot of chargers available on ebay and it might be tempting to risk buying one, but what would you be getting? I bought a 42v charger off of ebay for £6.99 to see what was “in the box” (photos attached).
What I got is a switched-mode supply based around high voltage rectification and a 4N65F mosfet inverter stage. It does give 42.3v at the output and it claims to control the charge-rate conducive for a lipo battery but I don’t think I willing to trust it in order to find out! My thought is that switched-mode is ok when it’s working, but can get well out of hand if something goes wrong - which they often do.
I feel at lot more comfortable with linear power supplies, and using this would be a risk too far. In the bin it goes!

I think he wants to know if you live near him in case you burn your house down....:)

There are loads of chargers, for example, 58.8V 2A/3A/4A available for approx £30.

I wouldn't be touching what you got for £6.99 with a bargepole, bin it.

Ah! I understand! I did say it was heading for the bin though…

It’s clear how a lot of people who aren’t in the know, could buy something that will possibly cause a fire. What happened to kite marks? I seem to recall that you couldn’t buy anything like this in the UK without it being tested and certified. i guess those days are now gone.

That type if for a lipo then no, how ever the generic 2a lion type similar to Sans et al are ok and they can be had for about 10 -15 quid.
