I wonder if anyone here has had the same issue I've just experienced with the Shimano Steps E6000 on my Merida bike.
Three or four weeks after its last use, I got my bike out ready to go for a ride. Slotted the computer display into its holder, pushed the button and - nothing.
So of course checked the battery charge state - Full.
Checked all accessible wiring - no breaks
Checked the wires that go into the back of the display unit - - tightly fitted.
Checked the connection between the display unit and its holder - no corrosion or visible damage.
As we have two bikes, I then tried my display unit on the other bike. Same result.
Then tried the unit from the other bike on my bike - Display lights up; good to go.
Conclusion (or so I thought) - the display unit is faulty and would need to be replaced.
Put a sticker on my unit so I wouldn't get them mixed up.
Started a search for a replacement unit and found it.
Then (no idea why - maybe because I was resisting parting with the £105 - I tried the unit one more time on my bike.
It lit up, but the computer seemed to have "lost" the stored information - e.g. Total mileage, last trip mileage etc. Everything reset to zero.
But had a ride with no problems.
Next day, put the display unit in and magically all the original information (i.e. 6000+ miles on the odometer, etc) reappeared.
Now of course I'm happy that it's working, but just a bit worried that there may be a major fault lurking down in the Shimano computer in the crank.
Or maybe just a faulty connection from the Shimano unit in the crank to the display unit. Or something else?
Has anyone else had this happen with a Shimano drive?
Or has a theory what's the likely cause?
(I'm happy to take it into a Merida dealer about 35 miles away, but not sure what can be done if it's working. The nearest Shimano specialist is 120 miles away)
