To be fair, I think some common sense should kick in before anyone inflates a bicycle tyre to 90psi

Depends on the tyre and bike, some are designed for and intended to be used at such pressures.

I just went for a ride on my fold up bike, its got 90psi in the front.

really? I did not know that; I stand corrected...

Every bicycle tire I've ever had or seen has the acceptable rang of tire pressures written on the side wall.
