woods valve pressure gauge

I've just taken delivery of one of the "ex-demo" wisper 905e bikes (couldn't resist the "knock down" price ) however, it came with "Woods" style valves on the inner tubes. I've got a suitable pump (when used with an adapter) but I don't trust the pressure gauge on it. Has anyone got any suggestions where I can find a (cheap) pressure gauge that will work with Woods valves? - 60 PSI is a bit hard to judge by feel (cheap = less than the cost of two new reasonable quality inner tubes)

My advice is just to swap them for Schraeder valve inner tubes as soon as possible - it will cost less than £10 Continental Tour 28 All - Tubes - 3.99 GBP - Free P & P to UK & Ireland, Cheap International Rates. Next day delivery from Europes Largest Online Bikeshop.

Thanks for the advice Citrus - I was hoping for a "Oh I've used xxx from Halfords/Tesco etc" but I suppose I'll have to bite the bullet and put my hand in my pocket ... bah humbug

Easier said than done on a Wisper 905e. To remove the rear wheel to change an inner tube you need a hacksaw...I kid you not!
Wisper did manage to fix this on the 905se.

I've already found that out when I replaced the tyres with Marathon +'s ... you also need a large mallet to get it back in - I hope the Marathons are as puncture proof as they are reputed to be - I don't fancy tackling that at the side of the road!

I'm in the same boat with my new Agattu, John. Somehow it seems wrong to have the new tyres taken off just so that different inner tubes can be fitted. But I've made enquiries at the local bike shops and it seems that nothing does exist unfortunately.

Thanks for that Tony - I wont wast any more time looking for a solution, I'll just run these until the first puncture and then change them for schraeder valved inner tubes (does seem a waste though )

me culpa, Simon. I do have an excuse, although I blush to recount it! I relied on RoboForm to hold my password, and it didn't! I found myself in the web neophyte's position of not being able to log on! .But I've managed to persuade Google to allow me back in now, and will get up to date tomorrow. The news is good - my "leccybike" (hi Mandy) Agattu is still everything that one could wish for although still minus a prop stand alas!

An electric bike without a stand? Unthinkable? Google has let you back? LOL
Although mine has a stand and after a bump which stiffened my throttle also fell completely over in high winds on a stand under a cover and made it worse!
I no longer will leave my bike outside under a huge cover which acts like a sail!!
And I thought I was looking after it? Poor "Leccy" bike!

Presta & Car Type

Hello,

I only know of car type valves and presta valves. Is the Woods type valve the same as presta?

It's just that I managed to buy a presta valve pressure gauge, it cost £9.95 + £1.50P&P. If this is the type you are after, let me know and I'll find out where I bought it from.(It was on-line somewhere). There are cheaper models available on ebay too for about £7.

No, it's an odd looking one, reminiscent of the old screw in types which used bits of rubber valve tubing.

I read of problems removing wheels on electric bikes, although they seem related to built in motors. Is there any removal problem with the Agattu wheels?

None David, they are just normal bicycle wheels in every respect, as are the associated V brakes.

It's the wheel-hub motors that can present problems with wired connections and anti-torque arms etc.
