Wissy, most interesting reading not only your posts but the many and varied responses.

Your are certainly doing your homework but am I the only one frustrated by the fact that you are not yet riding up the mountain on your perfect bike?

Can't wait for episode two, the one when you new bike arrives.

I know I know.... I am on half term hols and had hoped to have madly rushed into it with two feet and sp(u)ds but you lot kept nagging me. Am waiting to see if Haibike UK guy for Raleigh can sort out a 2013 eq trekking for me and find out price of course.. He said he'd get back to me this week as he's also trying to 'encourage' mylocal bike shop to stock Haibikes... Nice guy who emailed me back in Welsh after I left a message on Raleigh's Facebook thingie sating 'have my money'... But the Raleigh and Haibike usual customer / sales peeps just emailed me back saying 'we don't just order one bike you know blah de blah'... had considered justebikes but hmm and haaahing and ho de humming.....

KTM Macina dual hs 2013 is main alternative but I like lots of gears. I like lots of gears so I can make more noise when I get them wrong.

Hey.. Wanted to know.. How's a pedelec like on a turbo trainer. Cannot wait!! :)

And if you can bring a car from say Germany here with German plates and German insurance (wierd) and drive about legally how come Germans cannot use their S pedelecs here?

I cannot take my VW Camper to visit the in-laws in Ozzzzzztfriezzzzzzzzland in case German cops test it in a 'rigorous' manner and nick it forever but here it is fine... Tsch(us)

I can tell you because I have one. My one can increase the hill up to a supposed 9% in 9 steps. So far, I've only tried my Oxydrive bike on it. The motor can spin up to 17mph on the highest load with 370 watts showing on the turbo trainer's lcd. Therefore, you don't have to pedal. I think my normal bike with Bafang CST motor will make the trainer smoke, so I didn't think there was any point in putting it on. I was hoping to be able to use the trainer like a dyno to get power measurements for comparison, but it doesn't have enough resistance. Its maximum power measurement comes from speed rather than torque because it's clearly aimed at roadies. If I could get a meaningful power measurement, the bike wouldn't have enough power to to be interesting to ride.

The only bike in the Kudos range that will fit a trainer is the Tourer D9....it obviously needs to be rear motor on the rollers and the correct fitting on the forks.
We occassionally take that bike/roller combination along to shows but amusingly you can only run at PAS 4....on PAS5 the power is such that the minute you turn the pedals the bike speeds up above 15.5mph and the power cuts.
But it does give an interesting demo...you have to select the highest gear...we run through the PAS settings to simulate different grades of hill climb.
Not a substitute for a proper test track.

You just need the right trainer, unfortunately they are expensive, the Fortius will do at least a Kw, and emulate hills to 20 % grade.

"the Haibike" is certainly the marketing coup of the bike salesman's century(so far) and I guess it would be an ideal bike to help a shepherd or crofter to work each morning. Our local GP has bought a brand new £30000 range rover delux for the practice even though it neva snows here, eva. It does in the hills of course but no-one lives there because it snows too much!

Well I usually do have to dodge a few sheep awandering on way to work actually so that sounds promising ;)

Is it but hype? Same could be said of other 'German' brands??

Whilst not part of Europe, an American could bring his car over here. Would not be allowed to bring his gun, far too dangerous. Much like the S Pedelec.

Oh , and should you end up with the KTM, I don't think you would be disappointed. I'll keep an eye out for episode two.

No it's not hype, it's the name. The Haibike is far and away the sexiest name those bosos have come up with yet.

Good luck getting Haibikes in your local shop, nice bikes. We contacted Raleigh and were interested in getting bikes only to hear nothing back despite contacting them several times. Therefore we chose a different make.
