Batterys and delivery

Hi Dynamic

You made a very good and valid point.

I have been to the factory today and asked your question.

The batteries are absolutely fine after a 70% charge they get at the factory for 6 months. After that they should be fully charged and you are away.

One very interesting point that came up today is, if you are simply going to store a Lithium battery it is better if stored with a full charge not a half charge as I had originally been told. If you are going to transport batteries then a 70% charge is preferable. They need topping up every 8 weeks to keep them in perfect condition.

Our batteries are now fitted with a sleep mode which turns off the BMS which is constantly balancing the cells and uses power. With the battery in sleep mode it uses hardly any power at all hence the 6 month delivery time now being fine.

All the best David

Off ebay or out of China?

Hi Sir Bob

I was referring to a post made earlier in this thread regarding the the length of time Lithium batteries can be left without charging. More than 90% of all lithium batteries come from China. I don't know of an electric bike with lithium battery that comes from outside China. (The battery not the bike, some bikes are constructed outside China)

Totally agree with your ebay comments, unless you accept you are buying second hand or a rip off avoid like the plague!

All the best David

As Wisper say, virtually all e-bike lithium batteries come from the China, even the Japanese ones usually actually manufactured there. The one exception is the BionX lithium battery which is made by a specialist battery manufacturer in Germany, though that supply did dry up for a while last year when the factory burned to the ground.

Hi Bob thanks for your comments, even when the battery is dormant the battery management system constantly checks and re balances the cells thus using power. The sleep mode stops this process so any power in the battery is not depleted as quickly. If only I could find a battery as efficient as you Bob, one that recharges by simply going to sleep I would be a million air by this time tomorrow! :)

I wondered where all those batteries were coming from, here I come Columbus!

Best regards David

Battery technology is continually improving. Given the new Wisper recommendations it is sorry to hear that some customers like Dave are receiving batteries which are dead on arrival! I would have thought that Wisper retailers would now prefer to check each battery on receipt as it would appear that the faults are occuring in transit from China! Could the sleep mode might be too effective and put the battery into hibernation for the winter or into a long term coma!

Hi DP

Yes they should be checked.

All Full Service Wisper dealers will check them before they are sent out. There is a list of them on our website. It is not recommended that people buy from Internet suppliers, they do tend to be cheaper but you don't get the full Wisper service.

That said E Bikes Direct do offer a very high standard of after sales service for Internet suppliers but it is remote rather than local.

It is extremely rare that a battery arrives anywhere DOA about 1 in 300 and we will change it without discussion.

All the best David

Wow just got from my long shift and coldest night so far, time for a tinny shhh.

Ok to buy on tinternet if it is a good thing but things on ebay are sometime from China and are to be made very bad indeed. My friend johnny in the red lion said that his friend joey went to china and actually seen the wheel come off a moving car. It was a china home made one. I did not say columbus i said comlumbia.

I am I not own one of these bike with so much trouble reported i can never fix these things on my own. How many whisper dealer are they and how many are service people. I not think my local bike shop sell wisper because he not like electric bikes and laughs at me with mine. He not even change tyre for me. I break everything in my life but my kakhoff just keeps on going apart from puncture which my neighbour fix for me.

thx

Excuse me for being slightly thick but where is "Columbus"?
Columbus is the capital and the largest city in the U.S. state of Ohio. Simples:) ;)

Hello

Just to update everyone, I've now received the new battery, and the old battery and charger went back to Wisper yesterday.

I will give the battery a full charge tonight, but the good news is that I did a quick test and it appears to be charging correctly. The battery indicator shows full charge, but I will do a full charge anyway. I'm so excited, I'm finally going to get to ride my new e-bike! :)

E-bikes Direct and Wisper have both been excellent and I'm very grateful for the brilliant customer service.

eddieo: I didn't get the SE because it costs over £200 more and I'm not made of money, plus I got it through the cycle scheme which is limited to £1000.

Columbia is a country in South America, not that far from Bolivia, one of the world's largest sources of lithium.
It's easy to get confused...

I found the Specialized range good as the shells are slightly larger and the fitting system is very good, can be had for £25 so not expensive.
