Finding my (electric) wheels

My 2010 Wisper 705se has been my main form of transport for 5 years now. Recently, my local bike repairman (very competent and friendly but not an e-bike specialist) told me that the rear gear cogset needed replacing; but that he couldn't figure out how to remove it from the hub motor. The local e-bike specialist has unfortunately stopped servicing Wispers, and I can't find any information on this online. So: can the cogset be removed from the motor? Or would we have to replace the motor to replace the cogset?

BUMP. No Wisper owners/vendors have any advice on this, seriously? This subject has never come up?

I think the freewheel is a bit stuck, you just need a bit of brute force and persuasion, Use a tube to extend the spanner's handle.

Other than brute force my preferred method is now to disassemble the freewheel to get to the body. Take the bearing cover off, remove the cogs (over a bucket stops ball bearings from rolling all over the place).

Once you have access to the body you have more tool options. It is easier for you because you are going to chuck everything in the bin and replace with brand new.

It is just a freewheel so the normal removal tools can be used.

I imagine that his problem is that the cable runs through the freewheel centre. That has to be disconnected further out and the connector there may be too large to pass through the freewheel centre, a common problem. He has to learn how to disconnect the connector if fitted, so that the freewheel can be passed out over the lead and the new one passed on.

The block connectors commonly used need to have the individual connector pins removed from the block. After carefully noting which colour lead goes where, this is usually by inserting a thin screwdriver or similar to depress a blade on each connector pin to release it from the housing. Once the new freewheel is on, the pins can be re-inserted in the block and reassembly completed.
