Wisper 705 Torque, Error 30, not working!

Just purchased approx 4-year old, well looked after, Wisper 705 Torque for my daughter and decided to get a couple of more for wife and myself as it seemed so good.

On second ride after purchase my daughter said that the display (W108) went blank a few times and came back with Error 30, but the bike continued to function correctly.

We re-charged the Samsung 575w battery, (Red charge light did not extinguish but charge level Leds went Green). Today re-inserted the battery and nothing will switch on. Bike does not work.

Does anybody have any ideas? (I tried re-seating the cables to the W108 display)

Error 30 is communications fault between controller and display so the fault could be any of those two or the wiring connecting the pair.
If you have a meter manually check the battery voltage as well at the discharge pins.

Hi Blueshaze, have you managed to sort the issue?

All the best, David
Neil/David. Thank you both for your interest.

I re-seated obvious cables but still we have the same situation where mostly the Wisper LCD powers on, but sometimes it does not and then the motor does not work.

My wife tried to take the bike out on Monday but it would not power on. A couple of hours later it worked 1st time when I tried.

Yesterday my daughter cycled 5 miles without power. She kept trying to switch on. A few times the display flashed on for a second but went off and the motor did not work. Just after arriving at her destination the display came on. The bike was fine for the return journey.

What is odd is that if the display goes off whilst already riding, the motor continues to work normally.

I don’t think that it’s relevant but when we charge the battery I do not think that the Red charge lamp goes Green (as in the manual) but sometimes it seems that all Leds turn off at around when it should have completed. Is this correct?

I have a similar issue with a torque 705 costing over £2000.00 - less than a year old. Did David from Wisper get this sorted out. My local bike shop say it would not go at first but then did. Implication is that it is ok when in fact problem makes riding it very disappointing.

Hi, sorry to read you are disappointed! What did Adrian in support say when you spoke to him about the issue?

All the best, David

David. The person at your site (you were said to be away until Friday, though I asked to speak with you) to said he would phone the local shop where the Torque is (Oakham Cycles). At about 5.30 pm yesterday (31/8) I spoke on the phone to the shop. The person I spoke to said it wouldn’t start first go but did thereafter.
I still do not think they understand.
You may remember it was delivered in a poor state at the end of last year/ early this year. You arranged for Rutland Cycles to collect it and put into a usable state - which they did. It did not get a lot of use because of COVID but when I was able to use it, though it would work on walk assist it was very intermittent when pedalled with the throttle open - sometimes it would start, other times it was quite dead….even thought the display showed a normal display. EG I would cycle up to a crossroad and stop, then it would not start again. The only way I can get it going is to walk assist it for a few hundred feet, then some times it will start, most of the time it will not start with pedalling and the throttle
Because I needed it ( I have a damaged back - that is why I sold my non-suspension 806 se and bought the 24” Torque with front and back suspension - which you said you had made for me in Portugal). and it was so intermittent I had “Swinging Wheels” from the Netherlands fitted. I even e- mailed you about them. They do support the bike but are unwieldy. Cost £460 and a 360 mile return to Eastbourne to have them fitted. The bike is very intermittent. I think that there is an electrical problem somewhere. I plan to call your office again at 9 am and try to get help and will visit Oakham Cycles later in the morning.

Oh yes I do remember you very well, the bike was damaged in transit by DX.

I will have forwarded your email to Support.

I am away on holiday now. I suggest that you continue take this up with Support.

Kind regards, David
