The cable to my display on the old 705 classic has ripped close to the display. It doesn’t seem possible to open the display to solder the cable. Can it be replaced? Where would I find a replacement?

While you'sorting it out, you should be able to get your bike working by bridging the red and the blue wires in the connector or cable. Like that, it should work on level 1 pedal assist and normally with the throttle if you have one.
Those types control panels can be either digital or analogue. If you open the controller to see where the wires are joined, it'll say tx and rx where the comms wires are joined if its digital. If it's analogue, there will be different markings. If it's analogue, you can replace it with any other analogue type. Sometimes you can determine the type of control panel from the connector, so show a photo of yours in case it helps.
You can also use this crisis as an opportunity to make your bike better by upgrading the controller to one with an LCD. Cheap one is about £40 and really nice one is £80.
When you change the controller you normally need to change a connector or two, unless you get a new pedal sensor, speed sensor and throttle at the same time, like you can get from Topbikekit. The motor connectors are standard.

Sorry, just getting back to this. So it seems Wisper no longer have these displays in stock and the manufacturer stopped making them too. Now as to saneagle's comment about wrong end of cable - do you mean I need to take the controller out to check how the cables from the display look? And if I replace the whole controller, what type would you recommend?
He meant the broken end of the cable where it feeds into the display. It is colour coded so a couple of the broken wires can be linked together to get your bike working again until you decide if you want to upgrade your controller.

We don’t think so, this is a very old bike and as commented, the manufacturer stopped making them nearly ten years ago. I will however double check with Claud our Development Manager who has been working on Wispers for more than 15 years. He now works remotely from Romania but is visiting us on Thursday to finalise the new 2025 models. I’ll let you know.
