Wisper 705 dead battery

I bought my Wisper 705eco in September last year and the electrics have never given me any trouble until recently. Last week, the bottom fuse on the battery blew while I was out riding; but I got it replaced the next day from the dealer. (BTW, it is EXTREMELY difficult finding 20x5mm, 25A fuses where I am!)

But today the battery just gave up altogether while I was out riding. Not the fuses this time; just... all the lights went off and it won't go back on again. Now I believe there's a 2-year warranty, but the dealer's not open until tomorrow to get the replacement, so I was wondering whether anyone could give me some helpful hints in the meantime, as to why the battery might just up and die like that.

The battery may be okay? The intitial problem of the fuse blowing could have been caused by a fault else where e.g. controller? Could rain water/condensation be the problem?
Have you tried charging the battery? Does the battery charger give any indication that there is problem with the battery?

The charger lights on top of the battery have all gone off, no matter what I do with the key, so I rather think there is a battery issue. But I will take it home and try charging it and see what happens. It may well be a water issue, considering the terrible weather we've had recently.

The symptoms description of "all the lights went off" suggest an open circuit has occured. A quick check of the cables & connectors might show an obvious fault.

I was just meaning a 'visual' check of the wiring you can see. Don't open up anything that is sealed and/or under warranty.

Thanks for your help. You were right that there was an "open circuit" - the servicers took five minutes to find that one of the wires had disconnected from the ignition, and its coming loose in the first place must have been what caused the fuse to blow last week. All fixed now. Anyone else had similar problems with these batteries?

Glad to see you have got the fault fixed. Its unlikely the connector caused the fuse to blow. The fuse blowing is due to over current current with time. I'd keep a spare fuse handy because the chances are it will blow again.:( If you know how many hours your bike has been powered up this should give you a rough indication of how long you have until it blows again:eek:

Okay, I recently upgraded to a 705se (2009 model, 36V 9A). It's been very good to me recently... until today, when the battery went kaput again! I took it in to service, the guy hooked it up to the voltmeter and it was only giving 16V out the bottom, and dropping all the time (it was down below 11V a couple of hours latter). When he took it apart there appeared to be some moisture or condensation in there, so he's going to just leave it apart to dry overnight, charge it tomorrow and see what happens.

Any advice from people who've had similar experiences?

Battery problem

Hi Doloras

Sorry to read about your problem with the battery.

Which dealer did you buy it from? I will give them a call today to see if we can sort you out before Christmas.

Best regards

David
