Last year I went out in the snow on my bike and couldn't believe how much grip I had. I told all my friends about it and how much I was going to use my bike in the snow instead of the car. However, when I tried to go out the next day in the same snow, I couldn't even get started - no grip at all - so I had to put my bike away. I guess it depends on the exact condition and temperature of the snow.

I found the loose fresh snow to be OK but as soon as it freezes even the slightest bit I was skidding all over the place!

My Beavertail XL mudguards came today and I was able to fit them directly without any modifications other than bending the brackets slightly. I used two cable ties on each one, and they held them surprisingly rigidly so I don't need any stays. I get slight rattling over bumps from the front of the back mudguard where it's pressed against the front mech. I can't fix it because they need to move relative to each other. The mudguards were about £13.50 a pair from All Terrain Cycles - bargain!

Just got to fit my new tyres now and I'm ready for the winter!
