November 5, 201213 yr i have always had a few bikes at any one time........its essential of course !!!!! i was asked recently why i needed more than one bike and when i started to reply i could see heads shaking and eyes glazing over as i tried to justify different bikes for different journeys........ so how does anyone manage with just one bike ???????? and if so is there an 'ideal' ebike to cover all eventualities.......... regards
November 5, 201213 yr 1x electric folder 1x electric Chopper style bike 1X MTB 1x recumbent racing trike 1x recumbent cruising trike (also fits VR trainer) 1x electric crank drive on way Think I have most bases covered What do you mean ONE BIKE!!!!! Whilst you could have one bike and use it for all purposes, it would not excel at them all, plus I love the different riding positions, the tuning and building up bikes. November 5, 201213 yr Well......Ive got two, but they are similar in use so if anyone has an electric folder going spare in exchange for the spanish pedelec I have stored, please feel free to contact me :D I think two would suit me fine, the Tonaro Esprit for general cycling and a folder for the car so that I have absolutely no chance of making excuses not to go that bit further afield to explore....... Mind you.....I just love the idea of an Ezee cargo bike too......and then theres that new kudos crank to try out next year, and the BH emotion neo.....I mean, really, being realistic, dont you think that a collection of bikes looks sooo much nicer than just one lonely one ? Maybe different colours too.....or maybe it should be law that all e-bike enthusiasts need at least 3/4 or even more bikes, that should give the trade a boost Lynda
November 5, 201213 yr 7, a stripped Powacycle, an old Giant Suede, wifes old mountain bike(which might get the Powacycle bits on, wifes CB20, 2 Izip hire bikes and my baby 'The Wasp'
November 5, 201213 yr so how does anyone manage with just one bike ???????? Absolutely !! I've cut down to a bare minimum of seven... :o
November 5, 201213 yr Author great replies....clearly letting my bike level fall to 3 is a serious mistake and with xmas coming surely time to treat myself to another......... regards
November 5, 201213 yr i have always had a few bikes at any one time........its essential of course !!!!! i was asked recently why i needed more than one bike and when i started to reply i could see heads shaking and eyes glazing over as i tried to justify different bikes for different journeys........ so how does anyone manage with just one bike ???????? and if so is there an 'ideal' ebike to cover all eventualities.......... regards I managed fine with one bike and the idea of having several bikes seemed strange to me, especially when some people on here own several bikes with the same sized wheels!..I thought you guys must be collectors/real enthusiasts of the bikes, rather than actually needing them However now I have THREE bikes myself, I can see the benefits to having different types of bike and different wheel sizes.. I don't know whether I will keep my three bikes (I doubt it).. I prefer to have one really good bike that suits all my requirements I think.. however space is a premium in my tiny flat, if I had a garage I'd probably keep all three and enjoy riding them all.
November 5, 201213 yr I just like to try out different things to see how they work, but when I build a bike, I become attached to it. I've only managed to part with one bike so far, which was my old faithful Sunlova. It broke my heart when it went, but at least it went to a good home. I lent it to a guy and he liked it so much he wanted to keep it. I've found that every bike has advantages and disadvantages. I'm up to seven so far.
November 5, 201213 yr It's nice to have at least a practical utility bike, a good road bike and a good off-road one as well. Snag is that X miles from home enjoying the good road bike is when I often find I'd like the off-road one for the next part of the leisure ride. Then on the way back and calling at the supermarket for supplies I really need the practical utility bike facilities. So the answer is probably to put up with the shortcomings of one all-rounder that's not ideal for any one purpose.
November 5, 201213 yr At present I own 5 bikes, one of which is electric. I tend to collect bikes that people have abandoned or thrown away, and restore them to working order. But then, I hate to part with them.
November 5, 201213 yr I've got 2 bikes. A Kudos tourer ebike and a Triumph Tiger 955cc. I am giving a bit of consideration though to another ebike. Possibly a crank drive one. I won't be buying a non powered bike as my son has a new MTB in my garage which I've been known to try out.
November 5, 201213 yr You can't beat a solid utility ebike with full length mudguards and huge panniers on a solid rear rack for splatter free shopping trips and commuting. You also need a half decent lightweight MTB for those adventurous fun days out. I've got those covered but I recently wanted to take part in a local duathlon and realized it was pointless because I don't own a racer. I think another bike may be on the cards...
November 5, 201213 yr Managed to stop at three could have been a lot more if I hadn't stopped myself! Down to two working at the moment though...
November 5, 201213 yr My business partner who is in his forties , is now on wife number 6. I have a wonderful wife of 20 years and 8 bikes
November 5, 201213 yr it's a bit like when someone asks me why I have so many guitars. I just like having them
November 6, 201213 yr At present I own 5 bikes, one of which is electric. I tend to collect bikes that people have abandoned or thrown away, and restore them to working order. But then, I hate to part with them. I have the same problem do you know if counselling is available for people like us.:)
November 6, 201213 yr it's a bit like when someone asks me why I have so many guitars. I just like having them Yeah but good guitars gain value and dont need expensive batterys:p (my son has 7. 2 used to be mine)
November 6, 201213 yr 1 Wisper (fairly new with 500 miles on it so far and increasing steadily) 1 Brompton (hardly used - in back of campervan) 1 Raleigh Shopper (This is the oldest and has the most mileage on it was used for commuting) Thinking of getting a lightweight hybid or road bike (I think wife has cottoned on as I keep disappearing into bike shops). Why? Why not? Peter
November 7, 201213 yr J and I both have Bromptons which tend to live in the boot of the car. We have a pair of Juicy Dutch bikes for general use, and our old road bikes (mine, an Elswick-Hopper Stag and hers, a hand-built Ken Bird,) hang on the wall of the shed waiting for Drake's drum and the restoration of our youth ... Mat the ewind be ever at your back, Tom
November 7, 201213 yr May the ewind be ever at your back, Tom It never is though, is it? You struggle against a headwind, thinking it'll be behind you on the homeward leg & the best it manages is to blow in one earhole giving you earache!
November 23, 201312 yr An old thread, but I thought that I'd add to it. I'm looking at a used pedelec tomorrow to compliment the NEO Xtrem. All being well and good and if my offer gets accepted, I should have a second bike to play on. Edited November 23, 201312 yr by EddiePJ
November 23, 201312 yr I hadn't cycled for 20 years and then this summer bought a crappy old Dahon off e-bay. I liked it so much I am now cycling 20 miles a day in London on my new Giant hybrid and I bought my wife a Brompton for her 40th, which seems basically to be mine too :-) I am a raging environmentalist (rather depressed at the state of things) and this is the first time I've felt good about buying 'things' in donkeys. Air freight from China is not ideal but its only been 3kg for my motor and battery and it doesn't need a seat on the plane either :-)
