Hi....I've been an avid reader all my life, from the age of 7 when I started with Just William and Biggles. ....I've tried nearly all the authors, unfortunately not taking to most.

My favourites being Michael Connolly, ....Frederick Forsyth, ...Lee Child, ...Peter James,
...John Sandford and perhaps one or two others.

John Sandford being my favourite author, I'm working my way through his books for the second and third time

I really struggle to find anything new, I often take 3 books from my local library and abandon them all after a few pages, someone recommended C. J. Box and I'm working my way through one of his, but I'm struggling.

On the basis that a recommendation is better than a wild guess I'd appreciate any suggestions.

cheers....Mike

If I wasn't so modest I might point out that not only do I read trashy fiction - I write it! Just to show how trashy I am as a writer I publish the stuff on Amazon for Kindles. On rare days when I sell a book I'm so ashamed that I give the money to charity.
Sorry about that - blatant modesty!
I'll have to eat cake now to make me feel better.
Nurse! Dundee cake, NOW!

Any man who enjoys Dundee cake can't be all bad.

Katy Price (Jordan). She holds the unique record of actually having written more books than she has read!

I recently found a copy of Jeffrey Archer's Paths of Glory in a hotel room. I'm not really keen on him, but I did enjoy this book. It about George Malory. Not strictly accurate, but an entertaining story.

I love scifi especially military scifi, if that is your cup of tea I can give you a few recommendations on ones that are fast moving?
Since being unable to work or do much else due to health reasons I am reading 4 to 7 novels a week dependent upon length :)

I like John Grisham, Clive Cussler and my absolute favourite Tom Clancy. I was upset to hear he had died.

I've been a fan of trashy fiction and sci-fi for decades. I like stuff that's been reasonably well researched and holds water (ie, doesn't burst the bubble of suspension of disbelief), especially technically based stuff. Nothing boils my pee more than an author who's just jumped on a bandwagon to churn out a money-making pot-boiler and knows nothing about the subject.

For historical fiction the Flashman series of books is right at the top.

I never thought Just William or Biggles as trashy.
....probably not....perhaps I had better taste 70 years ago :)

I use the word "trashy" to differentiate from quality stuff that's gonna' broaden the mind :)

I have had a Kindle for a while and went for the free stuff, Rider Haggard, Jules Verne and the like. My favorite from childhood Bulldog Drummond and now I download the 99 pence stuff. Some not so good but most are.
I also like kids books, Alex Rider series are good and check out the U.N.D.E.A.D. series for original story line. Good reading without the over the top sex or violence that often adds nothing to the story.

I have got my grandchildren into reading by finding the type of material they would go for. Well that's my excuse.

[QUOTEWhat sort of book do you like to read - crime, thriller, romance][/QUOTE]

Crime/Thrillers every time...I don't recall ever reading a romantic novel.
...watched one or two romantic films under duress :)

Favourite author is John Sandford although I suspect that someone else has written his latest books.
...all time favourite books are "Chinaman" Stephen Leather and "Avenger" by Frederick Forsyth.

I'm not the only "reader" in town, someone must enjoy the same kind of stuff so share the info :)
....and please not Tess Gerritson or Robert Crais...tried them and found 'em wanting :)

There must be other authors I'd enjoy but finding them is not easy. I have talked to other people who tell me that once they start a book they finish it even if they don't enjoy it ..I can't do that.. life's too short :)

....Mike

I am working my way through the Jack Reacher books at the moment - just finished the 15th - started at the end of August - the kids may not be getting fed but I need to find out how he gets out of his latest predicament.

Personally, I don't have time to read fiction apart from the Pedelec Forum:eek:
