Which motor/kit to get? Bafang CST or Xiongda? 36V or 48V?

So at the moment I am thinking of two different options, one would be to get the CST kit from oxydrive (probably a new chain and cassette along with it) and install it on my current bike. It seems very good value from a UK seller.
The other option is the set that cwah is selling here on the forum with a 48V Q100H motor in a front wheel, but for 26". Then I would get a used 26" bike from ebay/gumtree/LBS to install it on. This would leave my current bike untouched and I can try out if I actually would use the bike for what I intended it to, namely driving to the climbing gym, which is about 5-6miles but uphill on the way back, so thats why I take the car at the moment. And of course some more comfort on my regular trip to work and back especially with wind and rain.

and make sure you use steel fork and proper torque arm to avoid this:

Also, if you want my kit, make sure the hills are not too high because the motor is overvolted for high speed. It can't sustain low speed and strong hill climbing.

If hills are not too high and you pedal to help, it should be able to do that without issue

Hi,
thanks for all the replies. After a lot of thinking I have decided to go for the 'small' rear CST kit from oxydrive.
I will order it soon. Just to be sure on my additional shopping list are:
New cassette and chain, tyre and inner tube, so that I can create a "complete" new wheel and could change back easily if needed.
And some tools that I currently do not have: cassette installation bit, bottombracket removal/installation and chain tool.
Do I miss anything?
Cheers,
Daniel

I think the PAS magnet ring is split, you may not need the BB removal tool.

Answering my own question in another thread about a 12 magnet split ring and tool free PAS I found one in Germany at 25€ or so.

Do you know the axle size I would need for that motor? Cyclezee offers 12mm and 14mm. And which version, V2 or V3?
For the PAS I was planning to try d8veh approach: drill it open and glue it to the crank set. but I will have to see if that works for me, since I might have the chain cover holders in the way. otherwise I will indeed go for the solution you found.

Measure the dropouts in your frame for the axle size. I filed mine to the correct size (with the most expensive file I have ever bought - I was in a hurry...) and also drilled my trailor attachment to fit.

The photo on the kit page shows a steel PAS ring but the right hand tab shows a "tools free PAS" maybe you could ask Oxydrive. I don't think it has to go on the crankset side? My ring is epoxy glued to the BB dust cover.

Get the V2 12mm.

The PAS is handed IIRC. It goes on the left side. The only thing you might need to do is open up the hole in it, depending which BB you have. It's easier to judge the size of the hole when you slide it over the BB, so best to have the tool to remove the crank.

So, the parts have arrived and yesterday (night) I converted my bike :). Attached a few pictures of the conversion and some parts. If you are interested in more, just let me know.
There were some annoyances on the way:
The holes of the slide did not fit the screw holes of my bottle holder. So I had to open the controller and luckily just were the PCB ends there is a small gap where I could fit the screw for the attachment.
The cables are of course either too short or too long, but generally they are well measured and I did not have to cut/change any lengths.
I put the PAS and torque arm on the left side. For fitting the PAS, I had to remove the hole crank set since a had to remove the spacers otherwise it would not have fit.

So far I am happy with the result. If I can trust the speed from the display I get about 36 kph on flats and about 40kph with the wheel free spinning and full throttle. The motor is code 10.

I did not drive a lot yet so I will still have to find the best settings for the assistance. The motor is not as silent as I had hoped, but the sound still manageable. I did not drive a lot of other e bikes, but from my feeling it has quite a lot of torque and pushing me uphill with above 20kph with some pedalling.

Code 10 is about 315 rpm. Can you confirm please that you have the 11AH CST kit? What are the other markings on the motor. It looks bigger than the middle-sized CST.

I have the "new" CST 11ah kit from Oxydrive. It comes with the SWX02 motor now. See below picture from the markings.

Where your motor wire enters the axle you may want to seal that with silicon, or turn the axle around so the wire enters upwards, just to stop water getting into the motor.
Oh, since the SWX02 is a relatively new motor how about some torque reviews too.

15A controller normally gives about 19-20mph. You'll need 20A controller to get 23-24mph with the SWX02.

@awol: thanks for the tip, I will close the hole as a first quick fix and at a later stage mount the axle the other way around for more protection. What do you mean by torque reviews? I have no other bike to compare it with. In my feeling it is pretty torquey, but I am also pretty light ;)...

Yes, you've put the motor in with the axle upside down. If you can, take it out and put it back with the wire pointing downwards to stop it filling up with water. It'll be OK as like that long as you don't use it in the rain.

That is the middle sized motor. It looked bigger in your photo. It should go pretty well then. It will become a bit quieter when you get some miles on it.
15A controller normally gives about 19-20mph. You'll need 20A controller to get 23-24mph with the SWX02.
It's the same controller as the Oxydrive MTB and the 13Ah Oxydrive kit. Both of those can cruise comfortably above 20mph without working up a sweat.

I've tested quite a few combinations of motors and controllers, you need to push at least 800W through the controller to maintain 23-24mph even without headwinds. Can't do that with 15A. My guess is that Oxygen match 18A controller with the 13AH kit and 15A controller with the 11AH kit.

they may be the same, but probably not set to the same limit. Lishui make their 1260 in 15A and 18A. I know this because it's fitted to the woosh Karoo.

Jeez! You can't tell some people. Here's my 13A CST kit controller label:
