Which grease for Tongxin?

I and a mechanically inclined buddy have been taking my 120SWX24 Tongxin 180W 190 r/m motor apart because of very strange noises and at the end a total inability to turn on power. It turned out that the inner bearing inside the rotor has excessive sideways play and one of the permanent magnets had been grinding on the stator. Bummer. In the end the magnet slipped from the glue on the rotor and got half stuck.

Well, a new bearing has been ordered (it is a 626ZZ btw) and when we put the motor back together I need to grease it. But which grease is the proper type? Bearing the planet gear design in mind I would imagine that any old grease would not suffice?

Hi RD,

We use Dow Corning Molykote PG-21 for planetary gears.

I have used ordinary grease before when I stripped down the clutch assembly.

I have often wondered what that red colored grease is they use ?

"Red Rubber grease" is normally used for when rebuilding Brake Calipers as it's compatible with brake fluid.

I've used it before and it's very expensive for a small tub so I'm surprised it's used in that application.

Given the pressures involved in the Tongxin roller drive, maybe it's this one, designed for extremely high pressures and is tacky which might help prevent drive roller slip:

Ahh, that'll be the stuff!

Thinking back, I remember using it many decades ago when I worked in the shipyards.
It came in 5 gallon tins if I remember right.

Have you tried WD40 or GT85? ONLY KIDDING!!!!!!!!!! Inside joke, you would have had to have been there. Seriously, take the advice of someone that builds, repairs and maintains these motors or try asking the manufacturer.

Thank you all for the replies. I am curious about the Molykote because the grease did not feel like silicone grease at all when we handled it.

Jerry what are the differences (if any) compared to before when you use ordinary grease? Does the gear slip more or not? What about efficiency and noise?

But the point is moot because I just have to use the same RedNTacky grease that the monstertruck The Equalizer uses. I am totally taken in by that testimonial. Or not. But the product might be just the thing even so.
