North West.
Have a look at the Bafang Max Drive ebike's, step through models seem sparse at the moment.

Just my personal opinion, but I prefer the Crank Drive motors, to Hub motors.

Main reason for me is that a IGH is better suited to Crank Drive ebike, as I don't do derailleur's.

Two good bikes. What are your plans for them?

Its for my wife, anything from 3-8 miles a day.

She has one currently but it's a couple of years old, but broken at the mo,

I have ordered a new controller for it, but could be up to 60 days. So I'm considering one for about a grand and then fixing and flogging her old one once fixed, or if controller doesn't fix it...just bin it..lol

She has struggled for a week now trying to pedal, as she isn't used to it, and I don't like to see her suffer. So in about 4 years if not fixed I will buy one :)

Just kidding of course, but it's basically a sum up.
She is currently having driving lessons, so I am hoping by summer she is driving on her own having passed her test, hence I don't want to spend a fortune,

Assuming you would have stated anything really unusual, either bike will be more than sufficient.
Pity about your existing bike. Is it worth dropping that in with a specialist? Most can be fixed. What make is it?

Everyone seems so far away, hence for £40 I can try a controller, battery looks good, I have no means to test the motor.

It's an alien ocean one, one of the last ones they did...2-3 years old I think,

Everyone can recommend you a bike on the forum which is good advice but you will have to actually go and try it for yourself

No one on the forum can give you that personal experience that you are going to be getting when you are riding the bike what might be right for someone could be completely wrong for someone else.

For example a couple of months a go i rode a giant yahama e-bike it wasn't for me at all i didn't like the assistances on the motor i prefer to have a Bosch motor which is a personal preference

if i never tried the Giant bike i wouldn't of know what the feel was like on the bike so i wasn't able to comment on it now i have tried it i know what it feels like

You are 38 miles from our workshop in New Mills (SK12 2PY). We'd be happy to take a look.
