Nobody ever bangs on about 70 mph being the top legal UK speed on the car shows or forums. We get the need for speed rammed down our throats from a very early age. That's partially why 15.5 mph just isn't enough for a pedelec in the UK.

They'll probably talk about high speed when one of them dies. After two close calls now, maybe Hammond will go on to be 'third time's a charm'. Maybe he'll realise that he's been a very lucky boy and give it a rest now.The AA said:

Yes, but all line's of work involve taking risks. Whether that risk be driving to the office, or the hazardous duties of policing. Is the risk worth the reward? Would you take those risks for Hammond's fat pay cheque?

Speed freaks / adrenaline junkies are all but incurable in the pursuit of the next thrill it is the danger that keeps them going.
Not to dissimilar to the IOM TT 3 more riders killed this year one of them a 48 year old in pursuit of his dream. Even semi/pros aren't immune Guy Martin lucky to get away without serious harm again and Ian Hutchy despite recovering from nearly having his leg sawn off several years ago had an off this year, resulting a broken leg.

The IOM riders are real heros. It must be one of the most dangerous activities anyone can do, and they don't even get paid a lot for it. Maybe they're just stupid. Whatever it is, they provide entertainment for many enthusiasts.
Richard Hammond has become very wealthy for what he's done. I guess many of us would jump a the chance to do the same for the same money. Most of what he does isn't particularly dangerous, but anyone can make a mistake or anything can go wrong whatever you do. I know people that have had more accidents than him and had more serious injuries, and they never even drove in a fast car. Two accidents in a lifetime is not extraordinary. If he hadn't done what he has, he might have got run over by a forklift in a factory or got burnt in a building as a fireman, or even got wiped out by a drunk driver riding his bicycle to work. Life is dangerous whatever you do. Look what happened to Nicky Hayden. If he had been racing in GP instead of riding his bicyle, he'd be still alive.

No more braver then the side car racers esp the wing man.
Connor Cummins crash of a few years ago totally amazed of how he wasn't killed, his fairy god mother was certainly looking after him that almost fateful day. I still can see him flying and bouncing over the flint walls and across the landscape.

Yes. I was including them in the group of IOM riders. i agree. They must be the bravest of the brave. I heard that they have a special ward in Noble's Hospital for newcomers to get the prerequisite frontal lobotomy before they start their IOM racing career.
