Wheel Nuts Size

Ok I give up

What are the wheel nut sizes on my Suzhou Bafang SWXB electric hub wheel ?

The flat is 10mm, the thread thickness is 11.92mm but a 12mm nut don't fit. I have tried Halfords, another specialist bike shop and a dedicated tool shop. No luck. The tool shop found an imperial (UNF/UNC ?) thread, 7/16th I think, that sort of fitted but was loose. Are these old specific bike threads from the 60/70s or something ?

I have a closed ended (dome) nut and really wanted an open ended nut as now I have fitted a torque bar and a washer on the outside of that, I want to make sure I have enough thread on the nut. Probably just paranoia

The nut on the motor wire side is perfect, open and has a serrated edge to grip, so I wouldn't need the additional washer.

Closed Ended Dome Nut (but what size ?)

Just checked my terminology the one I want is called a flanged nut :p

Regards

Jerry

Sorry Jerry, just seen this.

It's 12 mm with a 1.25 mm thread pitch.

Might be difficult to locate spares other than from these hub motor sources, though that pitch is not uncommon
in this size.

As flecc says it is metric, but its fine pitch, not the normal M12.

I have a bag of M12 nuts I bought thinking they would fit.

Glad you found some Jerry. I like their single pricing, one for 75p. Though it might seem high, it's better than the
DIY store way of making you buy a whole packet of 'em, with much of those sales ending up in landfill eventually.

Just wanted to add my thanks for the info Flecc.

I managed to strip the thread on my dome nut by overtightening and got hold of an M12 nut from work only to find the TPI wasn't right. I was stumped.

I might have known a quick search of this forum would reveal the answer. I've plumped for stainless steel this time to combat the rust.

A pleasure Caph, glad you found this ok. Hopefully the increasing number of e-bike outlets will lead to more places stocking these nuts.
