It's probably a fault with the plumbing of my steam-age PC -...
Tom, when you go into Resources, Search, try clicking Search Threads and Posts in the top line before entering anything else. That often seems to enable it.

D8veh is missed by me,I think he was the most knowledgeable guy because he had built his own e-bikes and learnt by doing.
I didnt approve of his illegal bikes but they are his bikes, not built commercially ,he is missed off this forum.
I suspect this is the quiet time of the year for most e-bike sellers and there isn't the incentive to promote products. In some cases they like to keep quiet about new product to maintain a surprise in the early spring.
Hence the forum seems to go into hibernation at this time of year.

It's not just D8veh or the dealers that keep the forum alive and ticking, regular members play a vital part.

When I joined more than 8 years ago before becoming involved in the trade it seemed to be a lot more fun with less politics, bickering and trade members, my self included, hawking their wares at every opportunity.

Please don't forget the tremendous contribution that Flecc has made, his knowledge and impartial advice without a hint of condescension or impatience, he has been the one constant throughout the life of the Forum whilst many have come and gone.

I came here looking for help building a mid drive bike on the cheap and here I am with a rear hub motor and giving advice and being cheeky! Sound advice from many here opened my mind. OK so my next build will be a mid motor :D

I came back to answer a message and decided to have a quick read of the forum to see what's going on. The first thread I read, I find the sort of crass comments that drove me away.

Why can't you just talk about ebikes? Does it matter where people spend their time? Too many posts on this forum are just trying to knock people down or score points over people. I even found myself getting dragged into it, which is why I decided to stop.

Since D8veh stopped posting and creating great interest in his posts,
the forum has gone to pot, half the members do not bother looking in.
All we get now is throat cutting, and taking the p**s out of other members posts.
ROB
Maybe D8Veh still is posting. Maybe he has re-registered under a different name. Maybe he now posts about "top of the range" quality ebikes and not garden shed home brews.

D8veh tells it as it is and doesn't need to make up fantasy tripe. His self imposed exile form here is a great loss to the forum.

Just sayin' that's all.

Edit: Didn't notice that D8Veh had been active again on Tuesday. Welcome to the forum. It's a friendly place.

D8veh has left the forum previously, on one occasion really throwing his dolly out of the pram. Forum members with problems still got advice from the many other people who have experience of electrical components and/or mechanical things and that is what forums are about.

I'm afraid Dave doesn't hold exclusive rights to knowledge about EAPCs and just by being a prolific poster does not accord him any god-like status. In its earlier incarnation this forum, like many others, had a system that rewarded members with titles based on the prolificacy of their input. Flecc held the highest award, reserved I think, for only a single member. He was 'Guru'.

That hierarchic system is assumed by some to confer them with great knowledge and experience once elevated from the dog soldier grouping, known variously in forums as 'newby' or 'junior member'. That is inherently both sad and insulting to many people for what should be obvious reasons.

The forum will go on with or without Dave but I agree with those who have identified certain areas of concern brought about by the attitude of some individuals towards others. Perhaps a little more input from the moderators at certain times could remedy this?

D8veh, is/was one of the most technically competent posters on this forum, and his help in trouble shooting and kit building would have been invaluable to those who needed it. But he was not immune to rudeness and point scoring himself, and could give as good as he got. Particularly when the subject of ebike legalities was aired in posts. Which he and it must be said others here seem to take as a personal affront.

So although I respect his knowledge and expertise I think his post above was a little disingenuous, and claims from others for his god like virtue a little OTT. I still think the forum would be a better place with him contributing though.

I can recommend this site, which seems to be run by one man, who is doing his best to promote electric bikes of all types.
http://electricbikereport.com/ He does not seem to have a commercial angle, he just likes electric bikes, can see how clever they are, and wants to let everyone know. I'm all for that.
