What's this thingummajig?

I just bought a Powabyke Euro and it has this thing strapped to one of the forks. It has a battery compartment on the outer side and a small plastic window facing the wheel spokes. I'm guessing it's a sensor to tell how fast the front wheel is turning, but it has no external wire to connect it to the controller. Could it connect wirelessly?

Wireless speedometer sensor/remote transmitter.There should be a magnet on your spokes to trigger it.

As above a wireless speed sensor.
It could be for a different speedo/odometer.
If it works without then don't worry
