whats this part called

I have this electric bike below. but the part in 2nd image is broken. its so battery contacts touch the positive and negative contacts









This is the battery and as you can see I have made yellow squares around the contacts which obviously have to touch the contacts it is working at the moment but i would like a new part as its not tight

Not tight as in the battery moves? If it is just that just pad the battery or mount with a bit of stick on foam.

If those prongs are spring loaded on the battery, then a drop of WD40, where they slide inside the casing, may allow them to contact better.
Work them in and out a few times to free up any stiffness.

The docking part contacts look like they could do with a clean too. Contact cleaner and a clean rag or cotton buds are good for this. Very fine sandpaper works too, but don't rub too hard and take off too much metal.

can that part not be bought somewhere but trouble is what do i search on ebay or amazon

do you mean stick that white plastic bit onto a piece if thin wood and foam, as cant be too far out as wont be able to lock battery

Because that one is a bit different from most it's difficult to make clear what's wanted. Usually the part on the bike is an actual platform with some sort of contacts that the battery sits on, so just called a battery platform like this one for example:



In your case I'd describe it as the "battery contact platform on the bike". to differentiate it from the one on the battery, or they might send the wrong one.

I'll be honest and say that it's probably unlikely that you will find a replacement part. I've done a bit of digging around the net and couldn't come up with anything.

Owning an electric bike is about adapting and overcoming though, so this is what I would do:
I wouldn't go overboard with the glue mind. Just enough to repair where the fracture is.

I wouldn't use hot melt glue because the contacts heat up in use, which would melt it. You could reinforce al around the contact plate with epoxy (e.g. araldite).

If it breaks completely, you can take the wires off the contacts on both sides and put your own connector on them. Maybe add some extra wire so that you have room to bring the connectors together.

I will try the Araldite. but it has 2 screw holes each end so the positive and negative wires can be tightened into them

I will remove the part as it is now broken in 2, but with that screw in middle it seems to be holding the part in

I will take and show you guys a better picture of it.




Just also Whilst I am on here, as you guys helped me wire a thumb throttle up which works fine. I have tried bike a good few times, but the other day I was going along when all power went, the battery's are new, and the throttle is wired ok.. it was the fuse. mind you this is 1st time ever its broke after 3 years of having the bike the fuse is a 15A 250v I managed to get another but its slightly narrower than old one.but works ok

These are the batteries x 2 do you think I should try a 20A fuse or is 15Amp ok still

Apologies for post 2 separate questions in same post but thought it was best way

I will later take a picture of that battery contact platform removed from bike

Use a 20A fuse - maybe even a 25A one. It's only going to protect you from a dead short, which would be much higher than that.

I once had a problem with a fuse and fuse holder. The fuse kept blowing, even using a fuse that was well over the rating I needed.

Turned out that the contacts in the fuse holder weren't gripping the fuse tightly enough. The resulting electrical resistance was enough to heat the fuse up to the point that the glass was breaking.

I ended up replacing the whole fuse holder to a better one.

You need to make sure that the fuse holder contacts are clean, and that the fuse you use is very snug in the holder.

Using a 20A fuse won't be a problem, but if that blows, then you have issues elsewhere.

If you have a drill and a hacksaw you could remake this part,using a plastic kitchen choping board.The board I used for my battery connecters is 8 mm thick.

wow that might be worth a try good idea, as long as the battery contacts will connect to the pins and battery cant lock I will give it a try

I have stuck part ATM with Araldite. it takes ages to set 8 to 14 hours see how it sets if not will do what you said, good idea that.

If you are going to make one it looks like you could leave a little more 'meat' around the central screw and reduce the chance of a repeat problem.

I think it has to be same thickness as original one to hit contacts, but if i make one as indicated above. would bike still go if i replace contacts with a small nut and bolt or do it have to be be say brass nut and bolt

Gold ? Off to find something better for my battery contacts,steel has done the job for 2200 miles.Maybe you could use the original contact's.

Billy is worried about thickness and the contacts not having enough contact. I'm with you on the width for more strength.

Gold heheh I dont think I will be using that. so is normal nut and bolt ok for contacts.

yes correct. I will make width and also thickness same as old one but like I quoted above. the old contact is stuck hard now with Araldite. but still will try making a new part
