I need a new battery for my car, are there any that last as long as OE batteries, I've had two vehicles where the original battery has lasted 11 years, but I've never had a replacement last more than about 5 years.

Bosch, Varta, Exide, I presume they're all about the same?

My fancy charger seems to have recovered the battery, I'll have to see how it holds up, It's now 11 years old. I'll probably go for this one anyway for peace of mind

I don't know what the symptoms are which make you suspect that the battery needs replacing, so im guessing at lazy starting etc? It's very likely to be the battery which is failing at 11 years old, but a faulty starter motor can give exactly the same impression.

Just a suggestion to check this possibility out before investing in a new battery.

Thanks everyone. The battery is on a Motohome that stands for long periods. I didn't fancy going away for a week and then not be able to start it after being stood for a week.It does get charged whilst stood. I do have a starter issue too, but that's a separate issue again related to lack of use.

In the end I ended up with an Exide with 4 year guarantee from a local motor factors, it arrived just 30 minutes after placing the order, ebay was a fraction cheaper, but could have taken days to arrive.

Regardless of quality, my car batteries have tended to last only about 5 or 6 years since the cars often stand idle for very long periods*, not good for lead-acid types. So I've always replaced with Halfords own-brand, which have performed just as well as the known brand ones.

*One car I owned through the 1990s often stood idle in the garage for three months at a time, but always started instantly until end of battery life, even with the Halfords replacements.
