What type of bike will this kit fit?

Hey guys, real newbie to all this so here goes;

Out of an impulse buy - I now have a complete ebike kit with battery. Originally I wanted this to be put on a mountain bike but upon seeing how little the rim is - i dont think any mountain bike tyres will fit in there. I measured the rim (where the tyre will go) and it was roughly 2 CM, slightly less in fact, does that mean that this kit is designed to go on a road bike/hybrid bike and only that? The diameter is 26 inches - any help appreciated thanks

It's a standard 18mm rim. I've used up to 2.1" tyres on them. 1.95 is good and used to be very common on Chinese bikes with that size rim.

So I could fit this to a mountain bike no problems? or is specifically made for a road bike?

I have them on all my mountain bikes.

Best to tell us which kit you have, then we can advise you what to look out for.

Honestly have no idea mate, it was super cheap from a chinese supplier site and it took like 3 months almost to arrive!

The only thing I've got that has any brand or website on it is the manual which says DONGDIANEBIKEKITS and its just a 1000w hub motor

Front or rear wheel?
Rear wheel, the only thing i'm not sure on now is what bike to go for. I'm not really fixated on hybrid or mountain - can go either way.

Other than that, all the wiring etc - I can do

For those kits, you forget about wasting your money on a decent bike. They're very heavy, so the weight of the bike doesn't really matter. A steel-framed bike would be better, and disc brakes are very important. Cheap rim brakes will melt trying to stop something like that. The other other important thing is a place to put the battery. You need to show us the battery if you want advice on that.

Finally, some of those motors can only take 5-speed freewheels because of the width, others can go up to 7- speed. That's another reason why not to buy a bike with fancy 10 speed gears.

So best bet is to go for simply and effective?

I was looking at two specifically, one has front and mid suspension and one has only front suspension. Both have disc brakes at the front i think. Is suspension an important thing to factor in? Both bikes are less than 180 brand new mind you so quite cheap

for example - would that be a decent bike to go for?

There's no point in buying new because you won't be covered by warranty or dealer support. Look on EBay, Gumtree, Facebook local ads and things like that.

I'll have a look, not keen on something old and rusty
