I always thought one of the features of Tonka Trucks was that they where made of metal not plastic, like this...ahem...'mighty dump' version....

Not strictly true, the most popular and classic Tonka shaped trunk the Mighty Dump was introduced in 1964 and was made of metal...but yes they are also made from plastic.

I haven't followed them that closely, I'm just going by those I've always seen the kids with, and they seem to be mostly plastic. I suspect many might not even be by Tonka, but that name has become a bit like Hoover in the generic way it's applied.
