Would anyone accept that behaviour out on the High Street...
First, one enters a forum from choice, it is not the same as the public arena of the High Street.

Second, this site now allows anyone to avoid seeing any part of the contributions according to choice, something not possible in the High Street.

Would anyone accept that behaviour out on the High Street... No, i think not,

so why should it be a part of a public forum, in fact this is the only forum i know of that it seems to be acceptable, simple reason is that other forum owners need to cover their a$$ in case of litigation over content.

this may be an extreme example but shows the present day trend towards online forum/Twitter abuse

.West Yorkshire police arrested and charged Newsome under the 2003 Communications Act with having sent "by means of a public electronic communications network a message or other matter that is grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing nature". Last week Newsome was jailed for six weeks, after pleading guilty, with the judge quoting his post back to him and saying: "I can think of little that could be more upsetting or offensive."

The ability for each individual here to remove anything that they find offensive is available. You can 'self admin' everyone and everything that you don't like. Others, who may be less sensitive, don't need to do that for you.

The Judge said:
"I can think of little that could be more upsetting or offensive."
Obviously he's not a member here and hasn't read the brexit thread! :D

Forum software I once used allowed blocking of chosen forums to non logged in visitors, that covers the legal aspect because a private forum can allow anything which does not break the law.

I have read some mudslinging in the brexit thread, some bullying by a respected forum member with me on the receiving end but no slander or libel which are both within the frame of legal proceedings. If your skin isn't thick enough for a lively political discussion don't participate!

And @tommie, people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw bricks...

Ah, be so good for a link there on the `trowing` bricks if you could,

*i`ll wait*

and any forum private or public is subject to legal scrutiny at any time if the content is reported - you should really know that, or it could be a case of anything goes in your locale

tommie / Profile page / postings

There is some borderline stuff in there IMVHO, which is unfortunate because when you stick to writing about bikes you are often very interesting.

PS I fixed the spelling mistake, thanks for pointing it out.
