What does a bit of extra weight on an ebike actually do?

31kg for the R & M is light compared to my fully kitted out Boardman for single day ride outs.

  • Rear pannier rack with top bag and leather M/B panniers.
  • Yose hub kit.
  • 36v 14.5ah battery.
  • 48v 14.5ah battery.
  • 48v 11ah battery.
  • Suntour sus seat post.
  • Suntour sus forks.
  • Mudguards.
  • Knobbly 38/40mm CX/gravel tyres.
  • 2 x bottles drink.
  • Food/rations.
  • Tools/pump.
  • 2 tubes/spares and puncture kit.
  • Phone & 2 x Garmin's.
  • Lights, pic camera & 2 x bike cams.
All in with any other sundries I missed comes to approx. 37kg plus my 82 - 84kg.

All adds up to not easy to pedal unassisted.

The thing you don't say here is what was your starting unladen weight?
Need I say more?

I guess 31kg unladen is already quite heavy.

My Boardman originally only started out as a frame with sus forks which I picked up from Brighton, so starting weight was about 4.5kg.

End of the day unless you are going to have to carry the bike or ride unassisted weight won't have any baring, unless you are riding technical terrain.

With inclines it doesn't notice as I stick it in pas 5 & have 600 - 800w's of boost.
