Re-charging while pedalling is bad. It'll slow the bike right down, whenever you don't have power including free-wheeling. A bike like that would be great for a one mile trip to the shops from your caravan to get milk and a newspaper.

not going to bother I need something faster anyway, my Sirocco doesn't get above 19 even with the lcd limiter off

thinking of going the e-kit route now if I can find someone local to help me build it

keep in mind that air resistance is proportional to the cube of your speed, the energy consumption per mile is to the square of your speed without pedalling.
I use the formulae P = 2WH + 0.065WH * MPH * MPH, that works out to 8.5WH/m @ 10mph, 16.6WH/m @ 15mph, 28WH/m @ 20 mph, 42.6WH/m @ 25mph and 60.5WH/m @ 30mph before adding headwind.
The power of your motor can be calculated from the energy consumption, 250W motor should be good for 15mph, 560W motor is needed for 20mph, 1065W motor for 25mph and 1.8kW motor for 30mph. Batteries are usually limited to continuous 2C because of the Peukert effect, for a 20 miles journey on power, you need a minimum 36V 15AH battery at 20mph, 48V 20AH (8kgs battery) at 25mph and at you can't find a ready made battery that would do 20 miles at 30mph.

thanks for that I've been looking into 48v 1000w offerings, 25mph would be fine really it doesn't need to be 30

e-bike kit with 48v 15ah/20ah 1000w seems the way to go just need to see if anyone local specializes in building these and find the suitable model to build it around

Someone also had won the bid on a ebike conversion kit further down that page. Now please can someone tell me if he had gotten a good fantastic deal.

It is an all new 1000w 48v 20amp battery + the entire kit, ie the whole works excluding cruise control even a pannier bag given to house the battery. Free postage from China. US 610.00 .

Do you think He or She had cracked it, the jackpot ?

You can do just that easily with an 48V 350W 8-Fun BBS01 and 48V 20AH battery - dead easy to fit. Cost: about $800 from China. It says 350W on the box but it can deliver the same result as most 1000W hub motors.
