You need to have soldering tabs mounted to the cell, Nkon charge 0.55€ for that so it adds 33€ to the cost of the cells in my case. You can't solder directly to the end of the battery without risk of overheating and damaging the cell (much more expensive than having tabs mounted).

An arduino welder costs from $107 to 150€, there are quite a few about. The interesting ones use LiPo batteries as a power supply, add 30€ or so if you don't have some on hand.

As well as my batteries I have friends who have a velosolex folder with a 5 year old 24v battery that will need new cells soon so the investment in a welder quickly pays for itself...

Many thanks, that makes sense(150 euro will pay itself in terms of not buying a dodgy overpriced battery with inferior generic cells in my case). But is it easy enough to use a spot welder?

How do you find the tsdz2? Which model do you have(250w,350w or 500w). I gather from Google there are two possible snags - a blue plastic gear that can strip(happily cheap and easy to repair) and some dead displays(needing to be plugged into a bottle battery's USB to power on). Does it give as natural support as say a bosh or kalkhoff? I gather one has to not put any pressure on pedal when switching on to allow it to calibrate.

The heat of soldering can damage the cells by exciting the chemistry or partially melting plastic membranes etc.

The heat of spot welding is very confined, fast and dissipates quickly as a result.
Many thanks, useful to know

steb find tsdz ok 250w had no trouble with display, but when I leave the bike the display switches off automatically after 5 minites. sometimes when I return I find the moter does not give correct amount of assistance.
so have to switch battery on/off not had trouble with display.
also got a ktm /bosch 50nm good on range but for me the tdz is better on some hills at 60nm.

if I was buying again I would proberly buy the 350watt but with a good quality high ah battery.

met someone today exact yosepower battery and vendor I bought from, 35 miles pulling trailer , 50 ish without but light person 11 stone 250w moter
