Bit OTT GMM. You can’t always expect people to agree with you all the time. Personally I’m in favour of indicators on commuter bikes in traffic, and I would think other road users would soon get used to them. But they would have to stand out at the back and front like say the Honda 50/90 ones used to do; and they would have to be lighter than them too. So to make them rigid enough and light enough is the problem.

But will you ever read this?

Giving that wired lights are standard on e bikes is it not about time indicators were also included as standard on road bikes. Surely it would not add much more in terms of price to a bike.

There are a few rear light clusters on the market but they would need to be as bright as a car indicators or would be useless in so light
But indicators would need to be seen from the front too.

I think if you are expecting traffic to take note then surely the bike must apear to them like a motorcycle, and I have never seen a motorcycle with 1 set of indicators to be seen from both front and back

No, that’s why I said they would have to be two pairs like the old Honda 50 type. But they would need to be lighter and still be rigid. Hence the problem.

And on e-bikes they would hardly be a disadvantage, any added weight and wind resistance overcome with the added assistance.

Yes I agree, but its something that needs doing properly, whereas flashing bar ends could possibly lead to a false sense of security... Especially if you have a really big bum!!:eek:

Yes, fully agreed and I meant that. The indicators need to be large enough, bright enough and similar enough to common practice to be of any use in achieving greater safety.

FYI indicators are not required on L1-e (mopeds if you wish) in France, most scooters have them but they are optional. Having followed many said scooters use seems to be optional too when they are mounted... (real grumpy old man stuff there!)

This is also the position EU wide in the new regulations, optional if in accordance with UNECE 74 on L1e-B (mopeds) and not at all on L1e-A (low powered mopeds), aka e-bikes with throttles and up to 1000 watts.

Flecc. At the risk of being stereotyped i 'liked' your earlier post about 'likes' by regulars. Totally agree, having used and discarded Winkkus. I still think the only essential on the bar end is a mirror.

Personally I think they look ugly but more worryingly I think they'd cause confusion and cause more accidents then less. We all witness the false sense of security indicators give car drivers, I can see the same sort of stupid confidence with a % of bicycle riders if these became the norm.
