You don't need a dongle with a bike from 50cycles. There's other ways to get the full speed.

Do tell!
Just back from a ride on my Agattu and although it still gives power to 17mph it would be good it power could be available a little beyond this speed on occasions.
You can programme the software to cut the motor at a higher speed by putting a smaller wheel size into it using the dealer device. Which they may lend you. They did lend them out so you could update the software on some bikes, but they may not now if the software on your bike is up to date.

It would almost certainly invalidate the warranty though, and they could hardly fail to notice it when they plugged in the diagnostic device.

I had a duff 17ah battery just before Christmas too. So since it seemed to be that size which was giving problems and all at about the same time, it may have been a faulty batch. I had to do a 300 mile round trip to Bristol to change it because they wouldn’t send it out saying that their delivery company would not take them anymore.

I did a battery exchange by courier with another manufacture a few months before that though; and it seems they can send them now from reading up the thread.

so how can ebike shop fit dongles and still honer the warranty from bosch ect if it goes wrong ?as they do not even sell the motors and send them back to bocsh same as ever one else.

cant be 1 rule for them and another for all other dealers

Search KTMs posts on this subject. He is the importer and also deals with Bosch. He has said many times here that Bosch will not honour a warranty if a dongle has been used, and that they can detect its use when they interrogate the software.

He does not see eye to eye with some dealers over this issue.

2 years on the whole electrical system. All of our warranty work is carried out in house.

they do not fix bosch motors they go back to bosch and they do not even sell them so thats a lie for start off

Bosch offer a 250w & 350w motor, both motors are the same although one is pre programmed to hit a faster assisted speed. We explain these differences in more detail on a blog article here. Remember a 250w Bosch motor with a tuning kit will go faster than a 350w motor as standard.

a 350w with dongle is faster all performance bosch motors are 350w not 250w like it says on my frame its just been set to that thus why a dongle unlocks it from 250w uk spec15mph and goes faster.

Not actually relevant to the new OP.... which is about 50cycle... so I'm sure they can can answer that question.

However with regard to Bosch...

Don't shoot the messenger. I'm just passing on what Bosch say.

Which is clearly...

"The are various companies and individuals who offer a “tuning” or customized modification of Bosch eBike Systems, especially through the internet. As the original component manufacturer, Bosch eBike Systems strongly advises against using such products and services, or attempting to modify a Bosch eBike System yourself: there is a great risk of shortening your system’s service life, and of damaging both the drive unit and the bike. There is also the danger of negating the guarantee and warranty claims on the bike you purchased. In addition, improper treatment of the system will endanger your safety and that of other road users, risking accidents as a result of this tuning, as well as steep personal liability costs and even criminal prosecution. Therefore, Bosch eBike Systems calls upon all eBike riders and vendors to refrain from “tuning” products and services."

http://www.bosch-ebike.de/en/produkte_neu/faq_1/faq_7.php

Now I can't comment on why that is.... worrying about liability issues? wanting customers to spend the extra and buy the 350w motors? etc etc are of all course possible reasons.

But its clear from conversations we've had with Bosch, they will not offer warranty support to bikes that have been tweaked.

So if a dealer is saying they will warranty a bike, its totally their call because as an end consumer your warranty is officially with the shop. So the shop can say that..... However the shop will then (if they need to) have to claim off Bosch, but that shouldn't effect you as a customer.

I'm sure that if you asked 50cycles about the reprogramming before you bought the bike, you could come to a satisfactory arrangement about the warranty. I guess that they wouldn't want to publish anything about reprogramming or what they allow or don't allow. - best kept between you and them if you don't want to spoil it for everyone.

Not sure what this is doing here. I posted it on the Kalkhoff thread and the mods say they moved some posts from that. Don’t know why they moved it here though because it is apropos of nothing on this thread.

I'm confused as well
Not sure what they moved or where it went. But it’s just one of life’s little mysteries.

Threads like this are less long lived than chip paper anyway. Tomorrow it will all have vanished into the past, never to be seen again.
