walk assist mode

I have the same G51 display on my bike, But i was told to have walk assist mode on, you have to hold down minus key then keep your finger on the minus key and walk with bike, which to me seems very awkward, But on this youtube video he just holds minus key for 3 secs lets go of key then just walk with bike which is much better. but how comes mine wont only if i have finger on that key

Same on my Kingmeter; made more difficult by having a bell between the gears/brakes and the display.
I agree it's awkward. I think it's a safety issue, to stop the bike running (walking?) away from you under power if you accidently let go for any reason.

Is there a bit in the video of that guy tripping over his bike and landing crotch first onto the spinning motored wheel with his flies open? Perhaps he's acquired a kit intended for a region where that sort of walk assist is legal, and blokes have fewer testicles.

It's a legal issue since walk assist is based on the pedestrian controlled vehicles law. That is for powered barrows where the pedestrian pulls on the barrow handle and the barrow obediently follows until the pedestrian stops, releasing the tension on the switch that controls the motor.

Well it just seems awkward to me having to hold down the minus button then having to walk with bike. but he must have a different setting on his G51 controller as you can see, he isnt holding the button down whilst walking. its not a major problem really was just wondering why his G51 is different to mine

I would have thought if you could do as in video, then at least you can steady bike easier by holding handle grips

I’ve never used walk assist and cannot really think of any circumstance where I would use it.
Mind you, I’ve never tried to push a bike up a mountain

I've been very glad of walk assist when pushing the bike up from canal towpaths onto bridges.
Some of them have steps with a "trough" alongside to wheel the bike up.

I once had to get my bike up a steep hill and the only thing that saved me was walking alongside my bike twisting the throttle gently to get me up that hill - walk assist would be ideal for these situations

A KT system allows a throttle with a walk assist option.
