Voodoo Banshee 29er Conversion

Hi all,

I've got a Voodoo Banshee 29er and I'd like to convert it.

I am a newbie and struggling to know what would fit ok and be suitable to make it good fun off road.

I think for ease of fitting it'd be a rear hub drive with some sort of throttle.

Anyone have any advice/suggestions/links?

I'm a big fan of hub motors but if you are using the bike off-road as it was intended mid-drive is the right choice for such a bike. If you really don't do proper off-roading and just like the style of mountain bike and its really used as a road bike and light off-road use then yes a rear hub motor will be fine.

I'm a bit confused by your description of the bike though as the voodoo banshee was a 3DFX graphics card which I had myself many years ago and enjoyed playing many PC games on it. There is a Carrera Banshee and many Voodoo models like Bantu etc but I don't think there is a bike with that name but could be wrong.

You are right! Sorry, it's a Voodoo Aizan!! Don't know where Banshee came from.

I'd like a mid motor but not sure the best place to buy for a good deal and which one is a relatively easy fit. It would be mainly for playing off road

I admit I haven't looked at current prices but I would guess an entry level mid-drive motor would be about £600 including battery but a rear hub motor with battery around £400. So there is a 50% premium on top for mid-drive. There are probably better people on this forum to advise on where to buy a mid-drive motor and which battery than me. I have a bike I hope to fit a mid-drive too at some point but currently just have hub drive ebikes.

A hub motor will still be a good option just not ideal for that use. The Aizan appears to be a hardtail which means the rear of the bike gets a pretty hard life if used off-road and the hub motor will be less forgiving with the shorter spokes and will be taking more impacts which could effect internal bearings etc. You would definitely want to maximise tyre width and inflate carefully to maximise the suspension effect of the tyres. In fact I would max out both tyres and even go with a mini-mullet setup if you have extra tyre width clearance at the front i.e. a bigger tyre at the front than the rear. Just to maximise cushioning of the hub motor.
