Volt Pulse Riding up steep narrow track

Hi, Vivien here- wakened up after winter!
Can I have some bog standard advice on getting up a half mile steep slope with sharp bends on a Volt Pulse?. At present I treat it in stages because I can't keep up the necessary speed on sharp bends. But this means hill starts 3 times on the way up. Sometimes the assist kicks in quickly enough for me to gain momentum pedalling and I'm off but other times it takes longer for the asssist to kick in and I have to try again. We're talking about a 1 in 5 gradient on level 2 of pedal assist.
I don't think the level of pedal assist makes any difference to the speed of actual engagement by the motor, and I don't want suddenly to surge forward too quickly to fix my line of travel on what is a narrow bumpy track.
Of course I can get off and walk the bike up the steepest sections but that feels like a cop out!

The delay is simply a function of the software in the motor controller. some controllers, like Kunteng (KT), have a very fast response time, others don't. You should always test this out when you try a bike if it's important for you. Older controllers tend to be worse than modern ones.

What can you do? It depends on what you have. the Volt Pulse has been around a while, and i think that there's a few different versions when it comes to the electronics. A simple solution would be to fit a throttle, but before you can do that, you need to explore what connectors you have on your controller. Another solution would be to change your controller for a faster one that also has the connector for a throttle.. All these things depend on your attitude and ability to make such changes. Unfortunately, there's no magic button that will fox you problem without you having to do something.

Thank you for your reply, which is reassuring in that this particular difficulty is not necessarily a feature of my handling of the bike.

Yes thanks it has a throttle that will move the bike at 4mph but not enough to make a difference on a steep slope.
I can ride the bike up two sections of the track but there is a third which is the steepest and longest.
