My first washing machine lasted over 15 years on one new set of motor brushes and was only replaced because we were offered a nearly new "better" one for free. 5 years later and it was knackered; the pump kept dying, easy and cheap to fix, but annoying. When the bearings failed last year I thought **** it and bought a new one. With the cost of maintenance plans being prohibitive, it only has to last two years before a replacement is viable.

Like AK, I had a Hoover washer that lasted over 25 years with me replacing brushes twice. Don't expect the new one to last that long.
When do you think led lighting manufacturers will start shortening the life of lamps? My house is lit by led's with a spec of 15-20,000 hours.

My full suspension emtb is in for a service next week and am quoted £90. Someone said it's not rocket science but for me it might as well be .. I envision undoing the pivot bolts and it all flying apart like an unlocked spring. You need to know which bolts go in which holes, which bits to grease and which bits not and then tighted up to the correct torque... When air valley cycles closed down the mechanic set up on his own just doing service and repair but he has gone as well now.
That's very naive. Put a mark on one of your key suspension bolts and see if it's moved when you get it back. Most likely, they'll connect up the dongle, clear any errors, check the tyres for any cuts in case they can charge you for a new one, look at the brake pads from the outside, check that the brakes work and bounce the suspension a few times. Should take about 20 minutes. If you're lucky, they might ping the spokes, check that the gears change properly and check the steering head bearings for play, which would still be included in the 20 minutes.

Please come back afterwards and tell us which differences you noticed.

How many hours have I spend removing virii from friends and families computers for free... I managed to stop that racket by saying "sorry I don't know about windows I only use Linux".
Where did that come from? Virii has absolutely no basis as a plural. Viri could be plausible if virus were second declension masculine, but it it isn't. It's second declension neuter, and it's a pluralless substance, so never had a plural. The adoption of the word into English with a slightly different meaning therefore requires an English plural, which would normally be viruses. Virii, could only be a plural of Virius, but there's no such noun in English or Latin.

In conclusion, using virii as a plural of virus is punishable to the same extent as using apostophe's as plurals. The grammar police therefore sentence you to write out 100 times (no cut and paste). "the plural of virus is viruses".

Well to start with I have more trust in them than that..
I took it in after my crash to have a new gear cable and have the bent bits straightened out and they told me the pivots needed looking at and i have to agree as they creak a bit under load.
I asked what this entailed and it's strip it all down, clean grease and rebuild and the cost of this is £90.
They are a very small 2 man band that has just started up and having been in a few times, introduced a mate who bought a bike from them, I have no doubt they will do what they say they will do.
Hope it doesn't come back infected with Virii...

Perhaps not as bad as our confusion over octopus. The root of that is Greek so the plural cannot be octopi and we use octopuses, believing that more correct.

Still technically wrong though, the Greek plural form is octopodes.

Bike returned and am reporting back. Obvious differences are..
Bars were a bit off centre but now are straight.
Axles which were dry have been greased.
I see a small amount of a clear greasy substance when I rub my finger across the pivot bolts.
Cost was £90. No parts needed.
The creaking noise when I applied pressure in sport and turbo gas gone.
