Hey I am about to get a cheap ebike that has a faulty battery. It is a um44 by ultramover. Now im wondering are the batterys specific type for specific bikes like with laptops?

It uses a 26v 9ah lithium battery, but these are very hard to find and very expensive. Can I just go and buy a 24V or 36V battery and connect it to the UM 44 or do the bikes have specific connectors that you plug the battery into, meaning I have to find a 26v 9a lithium battery?

Here is the bike I am going to buy.

and here is the battery I am looking at.

also looking at this one but not sure if you should run a battery more powerful than intended.

With installing ebike batterys is it as simple as slot them in and insert power. Or do they each have a specific power in socket like laptops do?

I've done similar before on a 24v bike. Open up the battery box, take everything out, then run two wires from the new battery to the two terminals at the bottom of the case.

A 36v battery will give you a lot more power. The present 24v controller might work with it, otherwise get a new controller kit: Controller, throttle, LCD, pedal sensor, etc, and then you'll have a much better bike for about £50 extra.

Check that your motor has hall sensors before ordering a controller.

Hmm does the shape of the battery matter? The current battery is a square one that goes under the seat and the bottle battery is a bottle. Is the square thing under the seat the case for the battery meaning id have to get a square battery?

What do I do if the new battery doesn't fit in the old box?

No, you leave the box in place empty - just run the wires from the new battery (mounted somewhere else) into the box and fix them where the wires were fixed from the old cell-pack.

Here, you can see an empty Cyclamatic battery. The top isn't screwed on, but rather conveniently locks in place with the key, so makes a useful storage box. It was done before we had bottle batteries, which would be better.

I mounted a much bigger more powerful controller inside it. The bike could do an easy 30 mph afterwards.

Hi I have had another model of ebike from this same manufacturer .

1. Are you sure that this is actually a Li ion battery and not the earlier MeH type? There was a transition between the two types in 2007\8 . When this occurred they changed the footprint for the connectors. Not that it matters much as one can work with either. However if it were the earlier unit then you would need to get a different power charger when using Li ion
The electric connection terminals on the baseplate and battery were very good. They should be spring loaded terminals . I never had a connection failed.
2 The battery case is as far as I know particular to the UrbanMover brand and other units will not fit or have the correct terminal spacings. Therefore the best option is \was the first suggestion of sending the battery case to be recelled. With the improvement s in batteries over the last 8 years, they will be able to give you more power in the same volume. This would be the neatest and least work intensive option. Had that been open to me 5 years ago I would have used it.
3 I opted to replace the MeH with Li ion and the total work was under 2 hours. I purchased a 26v "frog" type battery pack on eBay complete with charger and holder and a length of high current cable from maplin. I choose the type of cable used to wire woofers in cars also few cable ties and two high current connectors. The frog battery pack is mounted onto the seat pillar. Removing the connector footplate will allow access to the two terminals and then the high current cable is connected to these terminals , I used screwin terminal block . Terribly important is to make sure that the positive cable from the terminal is connected to the positive connection on the frog battery. The defunct UrbanMover battery will have the connections marked and the new battery pack will also have connection s marked . So should be simple to do. One mistake here will blow the controller and possibly the motor. But since there is only two connections to be made and only one need be made at a time it is almost foolproof. Once completed a generous amount of silicon sealing and ducktape gives a waterproof finish. The hardest part was actually getting a tight grip by the frog holder on the seatpost.

The UrbanMover range were a quality product if their time.
