Ultracapacitors?

Maxell sells some REALLY big capacitors. Has anyone tried to implement a capacitor solution inplace of batteries, or used them to supplement high current demand situations that would otherwise decrease the lifespan of a battery?

There is another company on the horizon, Eestor, that is making claims of a world changing ultra-cap, the EESU. Any day now they are supposed to be revealing their system and rolling them out to Zenn. It may be a while before this technology makes its way to bikes, but they already have a company lined up for distribution.

I was wondering the same, plenty Youtube vids on battery swaps for ultra caps. I am not sure how they would work as a replacement because of the volt drop and the controller cutting out. They seem to be cheap except in the UK, shame I would like to try them.

No need on an ebike when a a 44.4v 10ah pack of lipo can deliver 13kw bursts.

Even on the high power Formula E racing cars they use normal lipo's.

ultracapacitors are still very much behind Lithium batteries - about 10% of storage capacity / kg. Eestor seems to walk on water - it has done very little in prototypes, nothing in pre-production run. So far, it has only completed some tests on its dielectric ceramics which may or may not be better than other ceramics currently being developed. A very long way before they can make stuff for sale.
I reckon they'll sink soon.

Time will tell, weight and charge time looks good for the capacitors however not sure about distance.

weight is ok, production cost is important. Ultimately, ultra-capacitors and Lithium batteries will merge, ultrcapacitors will be made out of Lithium.
