Ultra noob - source and fit Bafang?

Hi all – just looking for a bit of general advice about getting started with converting an old Rockhopper. I’ve got a commute of about 11 miles (off road, along a riverbank) each way, and I was thinking of the Bafang 750. I’m 16 stone and might use it for one or two hills on the weekend, so I thought of the more powerful one. That said – I’m not wedded to the idea; if the 500 (or even the 250) is more suitable then I’m all ears. Also, I’m fairly puncture prone so the crank drive appeals. So, my questions are thus:

i) Is there anywhere reliable in the Midlands that can source and fit a Bafang 750? Fitting it myself isn’t really an option – I don’t know what I’m doing. I've been following these boards for a while and the technical knowledge is beyond me! If not - can I just go on Alibaba and hope for the best?

ii) What kind of battery should I be looking at? I haven’t the first clue about what I’m looking for, TBH. I wouldn’t mind a bottle battery, but if anyone tells me a better option, then that’s cool

iii) All in, what do you reckon a rough estimate for the whole conversion would be? I can see the price for the unit, but I’ve no idea of the going rate for the correct battery or fitting…

Soz for being such an archetypal noob

Cheers

I believe eclipse bikes are getting in a shipment of the 750s any day now - much better to buy in the UK in case anything goes wrong! They sell batteries too, again, something which can go wrong and help be needed for. Woosh sell all these too I believe -and can recommend a fitter.

I can't believe the fun police have let this go as far post 6 before correcting your use of the term 'off road'.

That's practically Scotland, isn't it?
This is your Final Written Warning, O Southerner.

No, Cycleezee, Telford is a bit of Birmingham that aspires to be in Shropshire but was successfully kept out by the hunters and shooters using a wall of JCBs.

I wish it was Scotland - better whiskey, and the occasional hill! Thanks very much for the link - I'll give them a call. If anyone knows of a shop near me who can fit one, if you could give me a shout it'd be much appreciated

Hi Nev,

I'm sure if you were not such a huge distance from D8veh he would help you out:) Isn't that right Dave;)

On the other hand what about DIY?

Cheers - but honestly, DIY really isn't the way forward; just ask my wife! I've emailed eclipse, and I'll see if they can recommend anyone for the fitting, too
