Thanks for replys, they are for my kudos conversion. Current tyres are the schwalbe semi slick type, ok in summer but very little protection. Thanks for link will check out costs with them. Gringo thanks for pic and feedback. Geebee will take a look at those tyres too thanks.

I never see the point of MTB tyres if you spend most of your time on tarmac.

Well john the key word in that statement is "most"
On a 20mile ride, you only need to do 1mile in the slime to see the point of mtb tyres.

Better puncture resistance, but more expensive and only available in 26", but if you get a pair they work out at £49.59 inc. del.

Might be worth checking out Schwalbe Land Cruisers, cheap, dead silent on road, bloody fast compare to 2 other crossover tyres I had tried and according to reviews lower the pressure and they are as good as dedicated off roaders in all except deep mud.
Reviews suggest very pucture resistant in real life probably assisted by the high tread.

I have a land cruiser on the back of my kraken & agree it's a good trecking-type tyre, but I've had lots of punctures, mostly skinny little thorns, so I'd put slime in.

Sorry to go back on topic, but I have just fitted a pair of DMR Moto 2.4's to my Mountain bike (with Bafang CST, 20ah batt).

I have only used them for a mile or so, but I love 'em. They seem like the perfect compromise for my type of riding - mostly the back roads of the African bush - AKA East Devon.

You can pick up the 2.2 version in Halfords for around £18 each. I would have thought they would be wide enough for most folk - the 2.4's look very, very chunky.

There's no mention of that in the spec, but they are made of pretty thick rubber and have a deep tread, so I'm hoping they will be pretty good.

On my other bike I run Schwalbe Fat Frank's. They are my favourite road tyre, but not a lot of use off road. I have done about 700 miles on those, no punctures.

Decided on the schwalbe tour plus, fitted them today, I hope they reduce the number of punctures due to thorns. Though I guess it helps if you dont run over them in the first place.!!

They should do. I only ever had one thorn puncture on Schwalbe Marathon Plus in several years of riding on hedge lined country roads and cyclepaths. Even that was only a slow one and I was able to get home on just one pump top-up.

With that extra tread thickness yours should be even better.

Just as an update...

Ordered 2 Smart Sam +'s & a Land Cruiser (for t'other bike) from Winstanley's Bikes (ebay):

Deep breath, but ok send the one, which duly arrived & fitted to the rear wheel, which has Slime tube too (belt & braces).

The tire taken off has a thorn 3mm through it & slime has done its job, although made a mess between tyre & tube.

The new tyre has done about 300 miles & suits my riding surfaces zackly: I've had a couple of rapid stops - 1 on road & t'other on loose gravel & the rear stepped out of line in a most controlable manner: No histrionics whatever, so I'm very pleased with it so far.

Now waiting for its mate to arrive.

And an update here too, done about two hundred on new tyres, no punctures grip really good, most pleased. Hope your tyres jackhandy prove to be a good purchase.

Some flinty bits seem to take time to work through the tyre to puncture the tube.

So it's worth occasionally giving the tyre a scrub with a stiff brush in the direction of tread to knock out debris.
