Hmmmm! I use 14g spokes, but with 2-cross, which something tells me would be better for a high torque motor. That's only supposition though.

The guy who built my last wheel always said 2 cross was the strongest so I guess I need a different rim my original choice. Maybe I just buy the front and back and hang the spare up in the shed!

i have used schwalbe marathons [ not marathon plus] for 2.5 k miles over various surfaces and they have served me well.
they are lighter and cheaper than the plus ones and still offer reasonable puncture resistance.
i tried marathon plus on my non electric bike [single speed] but removed them after a week because of the effort involved and put on the ordinary marathons.
obviously effort is less of an issue with electric but they appear more efficient.
they have good performance if inflated to the max recommended psi on the road and enough volume to accomadate mild off road stuff if deflated slightly.
