I've mounted up my 500W 48V TSDZ2 on a light 10 speed bike, but have yet to power it up. I have bigger packs to test it, but want to run on a 26 cell 7AH pack, maybe even a 13 cell (21700) 5AH pack, both in water bottles. What minimum current will I need?

Mostly pedal assist at 12-14 mph on flats and not worried about running out. I can pedal this bike home.

Tiny packs that can deliver the current needed will be expensive , especially at 1s over 2s (13cell vs 26cell). Nealh recently gave my some great info on cells on a thread . I'll try to link it

Yes, I understand the Samsung 21700's are expensive, with the 50S at $10USD and the 50E are $7USD here. But only need 13-14 (if the TSDZ2 will run on 52V).

My 48v tsdz is 14a max, however I have no idea what current is drawn in any of the 4 assist modes. I use 12s 2p, I have 2 batteries I use. A LG hg2 6ah and a Moli P42a 8.4ah.

For a tiny 1s set up one will really need to use a 25/30a cell with 21700, one will only find the 50s is likely the only high current 5000mah cell, other wise one is down to a 4000 -4500mah cell.

The p42a is one o fthe best 21700's about at a faif pricing point, 30a genuine continuous raitng.
At 20a one will see approx. 124wh from 13s1p, enough for a one way 12-15 miles on flat terrain.
At 10a one will see approx. 144wh.

My Lg hg2 12s/2p gets me 30 miles on flat terrain with PAS 1 Kt 22a controller.

The p42a 12s/2p gets me 24 miles towing a trailer offroad on mosty flat terrian with some ascent with my tsdz2 in eco with a tiny bit of tour use. For this I'm using hybrid mode and haven't yet ridden in pure TS mode, hybrid mode is a combo of PAS & TS.

52v is a no without OSF programming.

Afaik eco gives 33% boost , tour 100%, sport 300% & turbo 400% it is only in the last two where the high current will be seen.
I'm still playing with my settings and thus far haven't noticed much difference in eco or tour using hybrid mode. I have to re-flash the comtroller with new hybrid mode settings to see if the power feels better, after that I will be flashing new settings and trying TS mode on it's own.

Thanks for all the info!

I powered up my TSDZ2 and rode around a bit, with an RC wattmeter on the battery. In Eco mode. peak current was just 2A. In Tour mode, it was 12A. I was hitting the battery's limit of 21A in Turbo, and then the chain jumped off. I need to do some derailleur tuning.

It's looking promising as long as I stay in Tour mode. The TSDZ2 is an odd duck for me. It's pretty mild mannered in Eco/Tour. I'm tired after my test ride. Maybe that's good. I should ride it more after I get it sorted out,
