TSDZ2 motor casing cracked

So I went out for a ride on my TSDZ2 converted bike today, and immediately it was making a terrible noise, so had a closer look and noticed this large crack right across the motor:



Is this salvageable at all? Or do I need to bite the bullet and buy a new one?

Thats dead you can get the outer case but it is not cheap and is from china and by the time you buy bearings etc and fiddle around quicker and easier to buy a whole kit
PS did it have the rear frame motor mount fitted

Depending on when and where you bought it, the motor could still be under warranty.

In any case you could still invoke primary legislation newly enacted which states that goods sold must be of merchantable quality and fit for purpose and nullifies manufacturers claims of one year cut-off points. Check your legal rights, they have just changed. As the years go on, you can expect a pro-rata warranty state. You will have little compensation after 9 years, but after two you can expect a good deal more.https://www.gov.uk/accepting-returns-and-giving-refunds

You have more rights than you probably are aware of to date.

No I didn't fit the rear fixing block mount unfortunately, definitely will be fitting it if I get a new one though.

I bought it from pswpower less than 2 months ago.... I shall contact them and see what they say.

Do not say you did not fit it according to the instructions, it needs the rear mount to release the stress on the case, sometimes it can even snap the rear bracket unless the bb nut is extra tight noticed the case is very thinly cast and brittle
Yet another reason i stopped using the tsdz2
Just noticed PSW power have faulty units for sale on ebay described to be for spares or repair

The bare case / casting is about £100 + taxes

Will it work if I get the crack welded up? Or will something inside be damaged because of this?

You would need to completely strip the casing to weld it, plus cost of welding, so a new case would be a better option. A full strip would show up any other damage.

Saw this when looking for mid motor with back pedal brake function. Says 70$ (prob plus shipping, taxes, vat, etc?). New one from 295$.
