Hi, I have a front wheel 1000w motor and was hoping to fit a disc brake to replace my current rim brake.
I have fitted a 203mm disc rotor but still cant get enough space to fit the caliper.
My caliper appears to be about 18mm between the face of the rotor and the back of the caliper but the gap i have is only about 14mm.
Are there any calipers that would give me a fighting chance of fitting in the space I have.40035

Hi, when I fitted a Shimano front disk brake i had to fit an adapter first then the caliper went on top of that (I have attached a photo of mine with a post mount adapter). Below is an example of an IS (International Standard)adapter.
I don't know your make of brake, these details might help

I have various adapters. The problem is that the gap from the inner face of the rotor to the motor hub is only about 14mm and the caliper is more like 18mm hence it simply wont fit. Has anyone any knowledge of a narrow caliper that is available in the UK?

There's this from the USA, no idea if it's appropriate to your conundrum:

https://www.ebikekit.com/products/narrow-disc-brake-calipers-f160-r140

This link is probably useless:

https://www.joom.com/nb/products/5f72ce4296419d0106aefd12

As is this one:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=160/140+brake+calipers&_sacat=0&LH_BIN=1&LH_PrefLoc=1&_sop=15

Googling, there do seem to be a lot of other people with the same problem.

The other ones you linked look promising but without any measurements its hard to tell.
If many people are having the same issue, someone in the UK will be stocking them... unless the issue is too recent for sellers to recognise the opportunity yet. I always harass sellers with questions, sometimes they know, but often they don't. And if I don't get exactly what they promise and on time, I unleash hell! If you do find something which looks promising, ask about measurements. The hourly rate for saving a possible £60-odd might be worth the time invested in tracking your victim I mean seller I mean product down...

I've had a look at the Shimano calipers on my bikes, one is 18mm the other 16mm.
Just a thought - if you fit a larger disk that would move the caliper away from the axle, maybe to a narrower part of the hub - ie more space for the caliper.

I've not used them myself but some cable operated disk brake calipers look quite slim.
It's not ideal but as a temporary fix it might be ok?

Rotors can cause issues with hub/ calliper alignment, often a 201 rotor and adapter is required. Without seeing the wheel set up, is it possible to add a washer/spacer inboard of the fork D/O. The A/R washers can be fitted inboard.
