Hi

Would any one know what the Bottom brackets torque setting would be for the
cups, I am replacing the old BB with a sealed unit from Kudos, Looking on the net
I think 35 NM would be the quoted guide, can anyone tell me if this is about right.

As the old one isnt a sealed unit I cant remove it with torque wrench to find out what the old one is done up too.!

Thanks.

Hi there,

If your replacing with say a standard Shimano sealed unit... 60Nm.
Make sure you clean the threads and grease it before fitting the new one!

Martin has already answered your question but FYI using a Torque wrench to remove something to record the torque then using that same measurement to refit doesn't work - items loosen over time so the releasing torque would be less that the tightening torque (same if using stretch bolts) and corrosion can also mean releasing torque is higher than tightening torque.

If you replaced your BB with a cartridge type, just do them up as tight as you can without resorting to large lever arms. If you replaced it with the previous type cups, cones and balls, you mustn't tighten them. Instead, do the side with a flange as tight as you can, then the other side you just screw it in until there's no play in the shaft, and hold it like that while you nip up the locking ring.
