Tool kits...

..anyone recommend a decent kit?...been looking at a few..got about £100 to blow could go a bit higher..would like one with a torque wrench init an all the bits an bobs for home maintenance....also whats a chain whip?..thanks.

A chain whip, is the tool that you ruse to remove the rear cassette. Essentially it a lever with a length of bike chain attached to allow pressure on the cassette. If you have never done it before, you will get it the wrong way round the first time, and you will loose skin off your knuckles, the 2nd time you try it....
I am deducing by not knowing what a chain whip is, you haven't had a lot of bike maintenance experience, but don't worry, it will come quick. No better place to start. I would buy a cheap bike specific tool kit, and buy a torque wrench separately.

I bought a Park Tools copy set for £30 of ebay, the tools are ok, do the job, nothing special, and then spend what you want on a more robust torque wrench. I just had to know what type of Bottom bracket I had, as I bought one first for my regular road bike. For an ebike, I'm not sure it matters other than brand specific spanners for motors etc, most kits are generic bike kits, usually based around the Bottom Bracket,.

If your a bit of a brand junky, go on the park tools site and spend your hard earned. If you are cost conscious, ebay/amazon/Ali's Bazzar are all your best friends.

.. depending on what you want to do.. do you want just simple maintence in which case a pump, tyre levers , patches and puncture repair and a set of spanners and screwdrivers is all you need. Grease and oil and perhaps brake pads are the only required devices on most bijes Aldi and lidl do very nice and neat kits.
If you want to do more a bike stand would be nice.. not essential but nice.
If you want to do more then you need more specialised kit .. thin spanners to adjust wheel cones, a chain splitter for replacing chains, a hammer for venting flustration , a spoke tool for trueing the wheels, a chain whip for removing back cogs and a crank wrench for removing the front chainwheel.again aldi have kits of these parts periodically.
.. but you need to decide whether you want to be a cyclist or a cycle mechanic. How often would you envisage replacing cogs, or bottom brackets??

I agree with the above, specialist bike tools are only needed if you are mounting a kit or building your bikes from bits found on the internet or in skips.
