After months of dithering, umming and ahhhing i've finally took the plunge and have now bought my first ever electric bike. Originally i intended to purchase a Wisper 906 Alpino or Oxygen City for commuting 15 miles to work, but now that the intended use for the bike has changed, i now only want a bike for general leisure riding with a twist throttle for those lazy moments, it had to be light, doesn't look like an electric bike and not cost more than 1k, i decided the best bike for my needs and use would be a Woosh Sirocco Sport. Big thank you to the lady over the phone for taking time out to answer my questions, think it might've been Hatti?? My order is scheduled to be delivered this coming Friday, hope the weather holds out, i can't wait, so excited! Thanks to d8veh and saneagle for their reviews to help me decide on this bike, i didn't test ride it but on their recommendations that this is one of the most natural feeling bikes they have ridden then that is good enough to say that i will be content with the purchase for now. d8veh seems like a very knowledgable chap.

This is the first bike i will have owned for more than 16 years now so i've just been trawling amazon to see what equipment i will need along with my new bike. Lights (Moon Meteor), mini pump (Topeak mini blaster), tool kit, mudguards. What else do i need to consider buying to make sure i stay a happy (and safe) e-biker??

I hope you like your new bike. You can't beat it for the price and support.

A cycle computer is quite useful. You can get reasonable ones in Tesco or Wilkinsons, which tend to be a bit cheaper than bike shops. The armoured cable lock in Wilkinsons is also good because it's cheap, but bolt-cropper resistant.

My recommendations for lights is for the Smart Lunar R2 rear light
Smart Lunar R2 Rear Light / 2 x 1/2 Watt LED / Red/Black

....and for front ones you can't beat Ebay. Whatever light you get, make sure it has a Cree T6 XML LED in it. You can get a small zoomable flashlight at a clip to hold it onto the handlebars or one of these bike lights that are bright enough for unlit cycle paths/roads, or you can put them on low for normal use.

1800 Lumens Zoomable CREE XM-L T6 LED 18650 AAA Flashlight Torch Zoom Lamp Light | eBay

Must have been me TCN - I'm the only female here. Drives me nuts sometimes (workshop not tidy, bins not emptied, tea cups left unwashed, hoover - what's a hoover?)...but there you go.
I think you'll love your Sport - its a light, easy to manoeuvre, stylish model for younger riders - but if you have any queries/issues whatsoever, don't hesitate to give me a call.

Don`t forget a nice hi-vis waistcoat from Aldi or Lidl for £1.99 , they come up quite often . The trendy ones on here ride with Ski or Snowboard helmets, as they look more menacing and less sissy than the ones worn by the Lycra people . Much more comfortable and warm and the shell is thicker . The Wilco lock at just under £8 as suggested . This has metal discs inside a plastic sheath and is not too heavy to carry .

All suggestions noted, thanks everyone. Ordered the Cree T6, as it's half the price of the Moon Meteor but outputs a great deal more lumens. Will also get the Wilko's armoured cable lock, thanks for mentioning this as it seems a great buy.

Thanks Hatti, i'm just a complete newbie learning about bikes so i may want someone to hold my hand while i get to know about my new bike, it certainly is reassuring to know that your company has a very good reputation and you frequently post on here.

I bought my daughter a hi viz jacket for Christmas. She rides a Boris bike every morning in London and is not especially street wise. so I worry about her every morning and night.....
I got this one on Ebay - it was a bright fluorescent pink, and I got it printed with 'Keep Clear of Kate' in large black letters both front and back. It cost me about £6 all in - fantastic, and she absolutely loves it (she wears it in the office sometimes as well....)

Hatti,

I won't tell you not to worry about you daughter because it won't stop you doing so.

But I can tell you London is now more cycle friendly - and thus safer - than it's ever been.

There has been a huge increase in cyclists in the capital in the last 10 years or so which means most drivers now accept them and treat them as fellow road users, rather than as oddities.

I felt safe using Boris Bikes last year, and I read somewhere the scheme has an excellent safety record.

About 30 years ago, I was having a cup of tea and chatting to a very wise old lady, she was telling me about her children who were now in their 60's and I asked her at what age do you stop worrying about them, she look deep into my eyes and said ... You don't

She was right.

Never a truer word spoken.....trouble is, the older they get, the bigger their problems when they have them.... and the more you worry......

I hate to bang on and be a bore about a single subject, but here goes!!

Why on earth is this bike only available in a 17" frame. This looks a really nice bike, I would definitely like one, but that 17" frame size with 26" wheels is really only suitable for a rider up to about 5'10" in height - It really staggers me that there is still not a single road legal electric bike with a throttle option that is commonly available that would suit a taller rider.

Sorry, I was so busy being grumpy, I forgot to say - congrats on the purchase, I think you've made a sound choice and that looks a really reasonable price for that bike. Hope you enjoy it :)

You may know this but as you've asked the question, here's the two part answer.

1) Most e-bikes are made in China and the Chinese are notably not a tall people.

2) Those e-bikes made in Europe are pedelecs without throttles, simply because that is the law there.

... and I seem to recall that the laws in the US (where some larger people are known to reside) permit a higher continuous output rating than in Europe before a bike is no longer considered to be a bicycle. So far as I'm aware ...

Although there is a federal law for 750 watts and 20 mph assist, the US laws are variable by individual states, some even banning e-bikes. See this post of mine to see how different US laws can be, and often not very appealing either:

Blooming heck. That's a bonkers way of running a country. No wonder Smokey & the Bandit were always hot-tailing it to the state border lol.
