For those still trying to source Tongxin motors I have recently contacted Outrider Technology Co.,Ltd and ordered a couple of motors, controllers, throttles and cut out brakes.

Ebike Kit Supplier - Hangzhou Outrider Technology Co.,Ltd.

They seem to have become more responsive if contacting them directly (before they ignored any enquiry) and send you a quote (PI they call it) before you place and order. This has pictures of what you are buying and seems better than before when you had to hope for the best what you where getting with all the language barriers and subsequent misunderstandings. This is especially important if like me you are trying to identify and purchase the narrow width motors that are needed for folding bikes and bikes with narrower fork spacing.

http://www.h9.com.cn/proshow.asp?articleid=629

They want you to pay by Western Union or Bank transfer but if you ask will let you pay by paypal but charge you a small % extra to cover their charges. For me it was about $35 on a $230 order. Not sure how much import duty and VAT I will get stung with. Worth reading their News link as it is obvious that they seem to be more visable now in the ebike scene.

You can contact them via their web site or email them directly via sales@h9.com.cn The contact name I have is CiCi though it is clear that Mrs Lin is still in charge. The web site also has clear pictures and english translations of what you can order.

I told them I want a sample so not sure if they would accept a second order.

Anyway I will report back on how the order process goes.

Certainly availability now seems better again than it was a couple of years ago when I was doing my EBrompton conversion. Being able to pay via paypal also feels more safe than paying by western union which is what I did when I first ordered these motors two years ago from a third party dealing with Outrider.

Regards

Jerry

I've just checked their website and there are no specs on their motors...

Do they have motor that can handle 1000W continuous and 650+ RPM? (30 mph on 16" wheel)

I have been following your posts for some time Cwah and quite frankly, I think perpetual motion would be easier to find than any bike to suit you.

...well yes, but no but yes but no! Whilst any OS has the potential to be attacked the threat with OS X is low. An old article for 2009: Why Are There No Viruses on Mac OS X? | | The Mac Lawyer and yes a virus was found since it was written but the threat to OS X is very low as it is with Linux.

Windows is a much bigger and easier target and has by far the greater risk especially given its underlying code. As always to protect yourself on any computer don't open any suspicious email attachments or click on any links inside an email, visit iffy websites or accept any pop up windows that claim you have a virus!

Sorry for the OT tangent!

I already found my bikes:
> If reach for longer distance and Brompton to get it under the table in a restaurant. The main issue now is to electrify them. It's quite a pain because of the narrow dropout and the folding system. But I'll keep people here up to date :)

Just to highlight some of the challenges about buying from China direct. I have finally had an email to say my order has shipped some 25 days after placing it.

Seems after the New Year celebrations there was a large back order before mine could be included. They are always keen to respond when you first enquire, but I notice they never volunteer any information like this, I assume for fear of losing an order or maybe its again the cultural difference ?

All that said, they have replied promptly to each and every email I have sent.

Will be interesting to see how much I get hit for with import duty/VAT :(

Regards

Jerry

Just picked up the parcel from DHL. They tried delivering it yesterday (one month to the day from when I ordered it) but I missed it. Over 4 weeks to wait for my motors to come off the assembly line and then they ship it door to door in less than 48hrs!

Seems I have also struck lucky with no import duty/vat charges. I asked and they said it had not attracted any so I was not about to argue. The whole duty/vat thing really does seem like a lottery. I have opened up the parcel and everything is correct. Seems Tongxin have changed their controllers as they are now tiny!

I will post some pics later. Motors and controllers also now have big QC gold quality control stickers on them as well. Quite a success this time given that the last time I ordered Tongxin motors I got completely the wrong one i.e. they had roller brake attachments. Fortunately I was able to modify them.

So all round a good source if you are looking for Tongxin stuff. Now that the factory is back on track I suspect orders will be pretty quick.

For the older members here I noticed Diana Lin's name was on the paper work as the Sales Manager. Is her company and outlet or but of the Tongxin manufacturing company ?

Diana used to reply to mails addressed to Tongxin manufacturing, so I'd guess that is an official outlet.

Hi Jerry,

Do they fit the new weatherproof plug/skt cable to the motor?
Yep, see pics below :

Well packed.

Motors in boxes, controllers, thumb throttles and cutout brakes loose.

Motors well packed. The motor also seem to be more tight in terms of when you shake them they don't rattle like my older ones do even when they were new ? Maybe I will take the lid off and have a look inside to see if the design has changed.

Motor with nice neat waterproof connectors and notice the QC gold holographic quality control stickers. Not sure if that counts for anything but looks more professional lol

Finally the new controller (shown bottom), again notice the new QC sticker. Compared to the other ones I got before (shown top) these are much smaller (about 1/2 the size), much more like the original ones that came with the Tongxins several years ago. I will do another post on the controller.

Looking around their web site they seem to have another smaller motor/battery setup ?

Hangzhou outrider technology Co.,Ltd.

That's pretty good if that motor truly is only 1.6kgs.

Slaw,

Outrider do sell them I think but the better contact for the Goldant motor is Sky at Keyde. Note this kit is really only pedelec only and although you can use a throttle the pedelec will always be needed and over ride the throttle.

It may be better for you to think about the Tongxin Nano which although a little heavier, has throttle priority if you need it.

All the details are in my posts.

You could of course just order the motor on it's own and use it with a programmable custom controller like the lyen mni monster to keep the amps down (also gives you a 24v-63v battery range) then you have the option of a throttle.
