Hi Frank

Thanks for your support which is greatly appreciated, as is your own large contribution in this forum.

You've noticed!

You may remember that the terminal full stop below the text was to achieve better spacing of the post text within the frame, the abutting of the text with the Edit and Quote buttons offending my sensibilities. The change in this site's format has attended to that problem so the extra fullstop is no longer necessary in most instances. However, when I edit a post and the note that I've edited appears, the text to frame spacing is again compromised, so then I still add the additional fullstop.

I might be an engineer, but I still have artistic sensibilities. ;)
Oh no Tony, I thought for a second you had forgotten, I should have known better than to think it was an accidental omission;)

Guru is a purely honorary title Brian, and it carries no privileges. It was given to me as the first and only helper in this forum when new five years ago and I solved a tech problem for the Administrator and his e-bike supplier. That was well over 17,000 posts ago!

I would probably be better off without the title, since it seems to be a "red rag to a bull" to many who seem to want to use me as a verbal punch bag. :(

All the best with the Bighit, a good choice for many now.
Hi flecc,i think you should be knighted Sir flecc Saviour of all who no nothing about Ebikes which includes me lol keep the good work up my friend ,we who no nothing need a guiding hand ,very best wishes my friend, and be prepared for a few questions when my Bighit hits the road,Brian.

Hi again i have just had an email back from the very helpful Phil at Powerpedals and he is very sure that covering the Battery up with a rack bag pannier wont overheat it by restricting the flow of air but was a little concerned that the drop down side panniers did not come in to contact with the wheel,so i have just bought a set of rack bag panniers off Amazon ,the bag should fit on top of the small rack on top of the battery and there are fold down side bags if one wants to use them, they are only short ones, but i need to try them to make sure they are safe and wont catch in the wheel, this is the make i have bought

Avenir Pannier Rack Bag c/w Mini paniers of amazon.. best wishes Brian.

Hi Brian

Very interesting that you have opted for a "loose" fit pannier set rather than fixing it to a frame, something I had not thought of. Please post & let us know how you get on.
May I ask what will be the main use of the pannier?

Well done.

I like that Tonaro Compy , but the stress of the cantilever battery frame looks like it could in time lead to failure of one or more of the welds . Why didn`t they put a strut down from the battery frame to the banana shaped lower frame .To blend with the rest they could have curved it slightly if they wanted it to look arty farty .This would have benefited those wishing to fit panniers and saving all the angst of potential owners on this posting . Even one of the £500 budget Ebikes had this strut , the Decathlon I think .

Hi Dellpitch , what i wanted a pannier for was for a few weather proof clothes and a some camping gear ,only small items ,i have this crazy idea that if i find out where there are camp sites real close to the canals which there are many where i live ,i would travel along the canal and camp in one of the very light weight two men tents and charge my battery up at the same time in sure there must be camp sites littered all over the place where i could charge my battery for a small fee ,maybe just a dream ,but what a beautiful dream, ps i will let you know if the
Avenir Pannier Rack Bag c/w Mini paniers of amazon fit ,very best wishes Brian. Phil just sent me this link incase i need to add a Rack which is no bad idea http://www.wiggle.co.uk/topeak-qr-beam-rack-rx-1/#more
Well done.[/QUOTE] Here is another pic that Phil from powerpedals sent me showing the rack on top of the battery i am sure this would hold a small rack bag pannier set , http://i730.photobucket.com/albums/ww301/scarrabri/spring_clip.jpg

Hello Scarrabri, I also have similar dreams about touring in France where I live, and also very impressed with the look of the Tonaro and comments as to its ability so am following this thread with great interest. Would appreciate pics as and when you can.

Ode to the Compy

Oh marvellous beast all shiny and red
You create such passion it is sometimes said
That folk who buy you want to take you to bed
With your elegant lines and marvellous power
You enable the dreams of some to flower
Not for the faint hearts or boring old farts
Only for bravehearts and those with young hearts
There is only one flaw in your graceful design
The addition of a pannier and you will be mine

Hi Oiseaux

..... lets not get TOO carried away or Powerpedals Phil might be putting his prices up......
good to see you are enjoying your retirement and putting your time to good use :)

Seriously......good poem and I hope you get your dream bike, having tried one I can confirm its amazing.
Seems like there ARE panniers available now by the previous posts ?

Hoping to get my Tonaro Esprit by end of summer.

Your dream of exploring france by bike sounds great.....I'm a bit lazier, my dream is doing it but with the support of my motorhome :)

I have just spoken to Phil at PowerPedals regarding going later this week to try the Tonaro range of e-bikes.

In conversation he made an interesting comment that whist the drive system is similar to the Yamaha it is totally diffent and the Chinese Company have there own patent on the system. The system apparently uses a worm gear drive so that the gears are in line, which I would have thought would have a greater efficency.

Talking also about a beam carrier rack for panniers, will let you know how this develops.

A worm gear drive has the potential for being much more inefficient that say a helical drive system. The sliding friction is high and care has to be taken over the helix angle as it mates with the driven wheel. Lubrication is very important as well in reducing friction so more demand is placed on it and more maintenance is need. They maybe good for low speed high torque applications but I would think there are better ways to provide drive.

I fully agree. I've casually referred to this system as a bevel drive to classify it with all the right angle drive crank units, but as you say it is in fact a worm drive. Fortunately the Yamaha original proved very reliable and it's power shrugs off the slight added inefficiency.
