Hi All

A watcher for quite a while now and am looking to take the plunge into a full sized
wheeled bike ( aleady have a 20" folder - Dahon).

Not being able to wait till September for there version of a Tourer/ commuter bike, the Esprit, I wonder if anybody knows if it is possible to fit panniers to the Compy bike?

Any help ideas would be appreciated.

Regards

Hi Dellpitch, I asked Powerpedals the same question by email and they suggested that I let them know what panniers I had in mind and they would check and let me know. I haven't gone back to them yet but you might want to contact them. I used the email address on their website and they responded later the same day. I'd be interested to hear how you get on:eek:

Hi.....I can appreciate your impatience waiting for the Esprit as I am in the same situation.........(it 'might' be here a bit earlier by the end of august).....but personally I have decided that its worth the wait, as for the compy....i was very impressed when I tried it and I seem to remember that you could fit some sort of panniers, I am sure Phil will let you know for sure when you ask him.
Either way, they are great bikes....unique in fact.

I also asked Phil this question and he looked around and came back with the comment that it wouldn't be possible without it looking a bit of a bodge. Like you I would like to get going on something I like before the fair weather cycling season is over. As there is so much interest in this bike maybe the engineers on this forum might have some ideas.

There's a very good video of an offroad Tonaro bighit here

Its saving grace must be that there is not much chance of it being stolen...except by maybe a scrap metal merchant?:D

I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder but seriously what an awful looking bike.....Heavy as well

I can't think of any standard pannniers that would fit. If it were mine, I'd make a couple of steel loops bent into triangles. I'd weld a plate to the top and then either drill and tap the straight edge of the battery holder frame, or drill though and bolt the plate on - assuming that when the battery's out, you could countersink the back side of the hole and that those rails are flat in the middle. Once the holders are in place, you could fit most of the side-mounted panniers. If you can't do this yourself, you need a friendly local engineer.

Plenty of teenagers would see this differently Eddie, and some would have it away like a shot.

It isn't heavy by crank motor standards, there are other crank drive e-bikes at or above it's 25 kilos, and with a massive 90 n/m of torque by e-bike standards and driving through the gears, it's motor takes care of the weight ok.

Tonaro, because if i was you i would buy one now before they take off in big style ,built like a tank, faster than the speed of light, crank driven, and yes that is right no powered hub to hold it back, cor how will we manage, lol scrap indeed my friend ,if this is so i will have a few ton, by the way there loads of what they call rack bags that will fit thesse beautiful electric cycles, because i too am looking to buy one ,best wishes my friend, Tonaro is the name of the future. When you've found one that fits, perhaps you could let us know which one it is because it would help the other owners.

Hi
dellpitch i have a bighit which is a brother to the Tonaro Compy ,and a very beautiful cycle indeed ,i too have been looking for
panniers ,and you can get loads of the smaller rack bag panniers as they call them off amazon and ebay, they dont hang down as far as normal panniers so should not get caught by the wheel ,all the best Brian.

Guru is a purely honorary title Brian, and it carries no privileges. It was given to me as the first and only helper in this forum when new five years ago and I solved a tech problem for the Administrator and his e-bike supplier. That was well over 17,000 posts ago!

I would probably be better off without the title, since it seems to be a "red rag to a bull" to many who seem to want to use me as a verbal punch bag. :(

All the best with the Bighit, a good choice for many now.

Thank you all for your repies, Lynda your patience will probably reward you with the "right" bike, however for the moment I am going to persue other options!

On the "Wiggle" site there is a range of panniers called "Tabus" in paticular one called "Cargo", which has both an axle fixng kit as well as a seatpost clampset. I wll phone Phil tomorrow to ask for the
relevant dimensions to see if it is a practical option to fit over the battery pack.

Will keep you informed.

There are wires inside the battery holder frame on the right hand side.

Tony,

I would imagine that those who treat you with less respect than you deserve have not been on the Forum long enough to realise you are the infallible 'Special One' who works tirelessly for no reward to help and advise fellow members.

I have however noticed recently that you're posts are missing something:(
Where is that extra full stop at the end of each post?

You've noticed!

You may remember that the terminal full stop below the text was to achieve better spacing of the post text within the frame, the abutting of the text with the Edit and Quote buttons offending my sensibilities. The change in this site's format has attended to that problem so the extra fullstop is no longer necessary in most instances. However, when I edit a post and the note that I've edited appears, the text to frame spacing is again compromised, so then I still add the additional fullstop.

I might be an engineer, but I still have artistic sensibilities. ;)
