arrived at our local forestry comission place (about 15 miles away the other side of farnham) and was happily trundling about when i stopped to answer questions about the electric bike from some lads who were interested, and got interrupted with an earful about not being a "proper cyclist" ....finished riding about, and was drinking coffee in the cafe (another thing proper cyclists don't do i'm sure) and who should i see loading their bikes onto the back of an estate car......sweetly pointed out proper cyclists ride bikes, not drive round with them on cars

feeling smug and self righteous - just thought i'd share

Nice one! I had a very similar conversation with a member of my walking group yesterday, who scornfully remarked, "I call that cheating," when she saw me getting ready to e-bike home after the ritual Sunday morning five miles. She was not happy when I reminded her she had driven a shorter distance to get there than I had pedalled, and used a trekking pole to assist her on the walk. No cheat she, of course!

I used to do a lot of normal cycling so regularly refer to my own electric bike as cheating a bit, but I'm quite happy to cheat my way up a steep hill, is no problem to me

proper cyclists ride bikes, not drive round with them on cars

Our local U3A cycling fraternity invited me to join them on a ride or two, but they tend to drive more miles than they ride & it just doesn't appeal, somehow: I'm quite happy riding the local lanes &trails.

Sad but true to life. On my way to and from work I see far more bikes strapped to cars than actually being ridden. I sometimes wonder whether some are ever used at all. Possibly just left in car park to establish sporting credentials.
